Wonderful resort with a few drawbacks

Overall, I had a blissful week at Aeolos, but there were a couple of drawbacks that would make me hesitate to return. Positives: The resort itself is beautiful, with well-maintained grounds and gardens. The pool areas are excellent, with plenty of sunbeds and wonderful views across the sea to the mainland, especially from the upper pools. Each pool has a nearby bar serving decent drinks and snacks, and down at the bottom of the resort there’s a lovely beach bar/restaurant above a private strip of beach — perfect if you enjoy swimming in the sea. My room overlooked the Relax pool and was very comfortable, looking as though it had been refurbished recently. I noticed a couple of maintenance issues on my first day, but reception dealt with them promptly and without fuss while I was out. Less Positive: The food in the main restaurant is much as you’d expect at this kind of resort — freshly prepared, plenty of variety, but a little “canteen” in feel. It’s fine for lunch, but at dinner it’s the same deal and the atmosphere lets it down. The dining room is very brightly lit, and there’s no sense of occasion; this is not the sort of place people dress up for dinner, most people dine quickly in casual clothes, with phones in hand, before moving on within half an hour. For me, it felt more like an airport lounge than an elegant, holiday restaurant. The bar areas in the evening are also underwhelming. The lobby bar has fantastic views but no ambience, with lobby-bright lighting and tired furniture. After dinner, most guests head to the main pool bar, where you can either sit in a small, covered area with harsh strip lighting or in the surrounding, unlit area. So, you have the unusual sight of about 100 people sitting at tables and on sunbeds in total darkness waiting patiently for the evening entertainment to start at 9pm. It’s a strange atmosphere and a missed opportunity, as a little thoughtful lighting and décor could transform the experience. Overall: I’ve rated this three stars rather than five because the evenings were lacklustre. This may seem harsh, but the issue is that once you’ve left the pool and returned to your room in the early evening, the day feels over, as the dining and bar experiences don’t offer much or encourage you to linger. With a few simple changes — more atmospheric lighting or dividing up the large dining room so that part could have a more elegant vibe or even offering staggered dinner sittings — this resort could easily offer a 5-star experience. That said, I did have a genuinely lovely holiday here, and I hope the management will consider enhancing the evening experience to match the quality of the setting.

Fantastic week

We loved our week at Aeolos, the room was spacious (family of 3) with a gorgeous view overlooking the resort and sea, we were at a higher level of resort so lots of steps and inclines to get to the reception and main restaurant (golf buggies are available if you don’t fancy the steps). Pools were clean & tidy although we found the relax pool to our least favourite as busier than the other 2! Restaurants had plenty of options and the 2 a la carte were lovely (we booked these on the app as soon as we arrived to guarantee a booking) the lagoon snack bar had toasties, fries etc. I struggled to find anything negative about our stay and would highly recommend going.

Amazing place! The Private dining experience is amazing!

Big review - Summary: Book this hotel! We stayed at the Aeolos on the 30/08/25 to 06/09/25 in one of their Sea View Bungalows. We arrived late due to delays around 3 am and were still warmly welcomed by the staff, given a lift to our Bungalow, shown inside & asked if everything was to our liking before leaving us. (There was also a complimentary bottle of wine in the room, which was a nice touch & paired perfectly with our view) The resort grounds are fairly vast and on a hill, so if like us your room is at the top end it's about a 5-8 minute walk down/up which definitely gets the heart pumping! However the grounds are kept beautifully and it's really nice to walk, plus there are phone boxes all around the grounds where you can order one of their many golf carts for a ride; which are up and down all day and into the evening - Though we only used this twice as we enjoyed the walk. The Bungalow (room) we had was amazing, very modern but authentic feeling, comfortable large bed, sofa, huge shower with great water pressure, Aircon, ceiling fan & even art hung on the wall with a dedicated light shining at it; Almost felt like being at an art gallery! The 3 pools are great! Very clean and all have a different vibe so you can change it up day to day. Then the private beach is also very quaint with beds & chairs to use with a small dock which you can also use. There are bars at all 3 locations including the pool which also has a beach front restaurant serving freshly made pasta, pizza, salad. As well as a crepe & waffle hut. The buffets were pretty decent for buffet food; there was always a wide variety with a theme each night. Breakfast was good although worth mentioning that if we wanted coffee we didn't realise at first we had to ask a waiter/waitress and it wasn't available at the self service. Unfortunately we didn't get to try out the al a carte restaurants due to having to cancel our booking as we were on the opposite side of the island that day and wouldn't make it back in time. However if it's half as good as the private beach dinner we had I'm sure it would have been amazing! Onto the Private Dinner: As a surprise I booked the dining experience for two people on the Thursday, planning to propose to my partner (I probably should have informed them I was doing so). About 40 minutes before I was contacted by Athena at the concierge desk informing me that it was raining & lightning; giving me option of moving the booking or cancelling which I didn't really want to do as it was a planned surprise so Athena suggested we push the booking back 30 mins to see if the storm passed which thankfully it did and we are very thankful to all the staff who inevitably ended up staying later than normal to accommodate us. We were met at the beach by our waiter for the evening Vangelis who was amazing the whole night. Very entertaining & knowledgeable who made the experience even better! Catering to all our needs, explaining every course & wine pairing and the occasional assurance the weather would hold out for us. I'm not sure the location can be matched; sat at the end of the candle lit dock with the sea gently splashing against the shore,clear views across the water over to mainland Greece/Albania. Seeing the lightning in the distance to our left and clear sky with the moon to our right made the experience even more special if I'm completely honest. The food was fantastic, up there with the best meals I've ever had; I picked the Chateaubriand as the main course as the rest of the 7 courses are set; For this the chef personally came out to the dock and cut it in front of us. If you're looking to do something that will honestly be a lifelong memory do this! It's worth every penny.
