Variable experience - mostly good.

Variable experience... Mainly good. Positives: - Mostly very friendly staff. Especially with children. Very kind waiting staff in main buffet, excellent and interactive with children. - Vast selection of food, mostly very tasty. - Beautiful resort and great pools/facilities. - Drinks and cocktails nice. Never stingy with portions. - well kept grounds. - excellent housekeeping service. -pizza down at beach is fab and lovely service. -nice to see cat beds and food out. This meant alot as we understand that stray cats is big problem in Greece. Would be great if the hotel had a donation box for caring for the cats as we would have happily put in our spare euros to know it would help out the hotel cat colony. Negatives: - When we arrived first night we were shown to a rather run down room in main building. Room 202. We had booked a bungalow with a garden view as we didn't want to be near the main hotel due to noise etc, however we're told the new room was an 'upgrade'. However the room was dark grey, chipped paint everywhere, small, plug socket hanging off wall, poor air con, overheating fridge - nothing like the pictures. Right next to loud music till late at night (not great with a toddler which didn't seem to matter to the receptionist we spoke to that first night). When we asked to change to our booked room we were told the hotel was full and the only other room available was next to the pool (again not great with toddler). We did complain again the next day and moved to an excellent room with great view - we were thankful to have been changed but the room we were originally allocated was awful quality compared. The room we were changed to was fab so that's a bonus. Variable quality of room was our experience. - lots of vegetarian food but it is not labelled clearly, accidentally picked up salads with meat in and mushrooms stuffed with ham in by accident. It would be so easy to put a Vegetarian sign out or have the vegetarian food grouped together. - main hotel lift (to floor 2) is tiny, we couldn't fit our stroller/pram in it. Another reason why not suited to families if they allocate main building. - food at main buffet is not hot enough. Tepid temperature could do with rethink on this. However it is very tasty...

Lovely Location Shame about the food

The chilled out vibe, staff, gorgeous scenery, premium drinks, and rooms overlooking the sea are all major upsides for Aeolos Beach resort. Now the bad: Entertainment - not very entertaining. Unfortunately the food is a huge letdown. Advertised as all inclusive + which we've had great experiences with at other Greek hotels in the past, we were expecting lovely meals throughout the day. No. We stopped bothering with breakfast after the fourth day, dry pastries, lack of variety, watery baked beans, large queues for the omelette station which is only staffed by one person, and for the first time in 20 years at Greek hotels, poor coffee! The coffee / Tea is also table service, which we were only given 2 out of the 4 times we went, gave up and left after 45 mins the other two times. For lunch you have excellent variety, Pizza / Pasta at the beach restaurant, burgers at the bottom pool bar, hotdogs or deli sandwiches at the top pool bar, or buffet at the main restaurant. However, it is all poorly made. Burgers are under-seasoned smash burgers that are made three times too thick for a smash burger, meaning they taste of plain minced beef. So easy to get a burger right, baffling how bad they are. Pizza's have so little cheese on them they appear as though they are a pizza marinara, real shame as the authentic Italian sough base is quite good! There is also poor variety - everyday it is a choice between Margherita, mixed Veg, Carbonara + mushrooms, or Ham and Mushroom. Totally bizarre that the only two meat options both have mushroom and ham, and you can only have pizza at lunch, not available in the evenings. Pasta was under cooked to the point it was crunchy. The hotdogs are ok, but served on a massive roll 5 times too big for the hotdog, and the deli sandwiches use the same tasteless cold cuts they put out at breakfast. The Main restaurant Buffet is objectively bad - I've never seen such consistently overcooked meat and veg in my life, carrots were translucent, chicken dry. saffron Rissotto had hot dog sausages in it. Souvlaki was full of sinew and gristle, inedible. Even the "show" cooking was poor, and the sauces / gravies etc for your hot meat were served cold - imagine pouring cold gravy on your roast chicken. Mad. The A la carte experience was also awful, the lamb was grey and served on a bed of watery overcooked cabbage with no carb. Fish was overcooked and tasteless and veg also overcooked. Staff were grumpy at the A La carte too. The desserts were lovely, so at least something was good!

The Good, the Bad, and the Entertainment

So where to start, The Good. The hotel is in a beautiful location on the hillside overlooking the coast of mainland Greece. To be honest I think every room / apartment has a stunning sea view. Yes the view is on the flight path of nearly every plane that lands on Corfu, but not really noisy. There are three pools the family pool at reception restaurant level. An adult infinity type pool half way up the complex, and the lagoon infinity type pool two thirds up. Each area has its own pool bar opening at 10am. No one reserved loungers whilst we were there, but I suspect later in the season they probably do. The main restaurant had a variety of food and am sure you could find a few things to east. The meats on offer were cooked really well. As we’re the fish dishes. Staff here were great Nickos the manager was always welcoming as were the waiting staff special thanks to Tony, Barbie, Jenna who served us with coffee etc. great selection of bottled wine to help yourself from, with beer also on tap. As were soft drinks and juices. There were two Specialty restaurants, Greek and Mediterranean. The Greek restaurant was great, again staff really welcoming and the food excellent especially the pork and lamb dishes. The Mediterranean restaurant, again staff really welcoming, but we found the food to be really bland. I had the green salad to start. Could only find 3 small crouton sized pieces of chicken and one small bit of pancetta, hardly any dressing on it. Vicky had the mushroom cannelloni, looked beautiful but lacked mushroom !!! For main course we both had the lamb with cabbage in a lemon sauce. Exactly that! 5 cubes of lamb around a pile of cabbage, did not look inviting at all and it was bland, could not taste any lemon. It was like warm water. The waitress didn’t look impressed when we advised that we were didn’t enjoy the meal. Although she did offer us to enjoy anything else on the menu. We explained that we would go and have some more food at the main restaurant. The Bars. The staff here were again so welcoming. Thanks again to Marivic, Jennifer. Anthi , and all the other staff who made our visit so enjoyable. Excellent barrier of drinks with a great selection of cocktails. The Bad. So at most of the pools they had toilets but very few had locks on. Neither the main pool toilet nor the lagoon pool toilet doors could be locked. And the Aircon in our room was hard to operate and the room just didn’t get as cold as we would have liked The Entertainment. Well we have saved the worst till last. The entertainment just wasn’t up to much at all. The first night when we arrived they had a band on and they were great. Played a good selection of songs. People got up and danced. Excellent we thought. The next night it was Movie Music quiz night. It was shocking, the Annimation team were running it, played songs in the lobby bar, which you had to raise your hand to answer with the first hand up being awarded the point, in a room of 100 people spread out all over the place. The team also spoke over the songs as they started to play them , and as it was from a speaker box, you struggled to hear it over people talking around you. Next night was like a Mr & Mrs contest again run but the Animation Team. We stood there for 5 minutes again dreadful. The night after it was karaoke night, things were looking up again. They had a band on doing the karaoke and this was again really good, although with the Animation it did seem a struggle for the band at times. The night after it was Kasper the magician, he was really bad, but did make 30% of the audience disappear after 10 minutes. The next night it was again the Animation team doing a music quiz. Again what a load of rubbish. The team were dreadful at this as well. And finally on the 7th night it was Greek night. However it was due to rain that night so just before it was supposed to start it go cancelled. The Animation team brought a speaker box up to the lobby bar, and played music for 10minute !!!!!!!. Whey could the Greek night group not come to the lobby bar they was plenty of room. So AEOLOS come on. We are a captive audience, as there is nowhere else to go of a night outside, so at the very least put on some decent entertainment with a professional Animation team. Your promotional video on the TV in our rooms shows bands in the amphitheater and singers in the lobby bar. Oh and where was the pool aerobics as the video shows it as the lagoon pool, but every day up there it didn’t happen. Then I was told they did it at the family pool. The timetable of events should state that at the very least. Lovely location but freely admit I for one would not return

Amazing spa treatments

This review is for the foot massage and 'face yoga' I received at the spa. My therapist was Alexandra T and she was super gentle with me which is exactly how I like it. The products used are beautiful and my face feels wonderful. Me and my Husband originally had a relax massage and deep tissue by Thanos and Alexandra T. My husband also had an excellent deep tissue back, neck and scalp massage by Thanos a few days later, and he helped my husband's tension in his shoulders - he did an amazing job. My husband was so impressed, he returned to have another back, neck and scalp massage which was done by therapist Alexandra B. All of the staff are wonderful and the pricing was excellent. We have loved all of our treatments at the Aegeo spa.
