Check in time is 3pm so don't bother getting there any earlier. We arrived at 2pm (hotel arranged transfer) and sat in the foyer until 3.50pm, totally ignored after registering, when we decided to take ourselves off to afternoon tea (included in our package). Afternoon tea consisted of a couple of tiny sushi roll pieces, barely a desertspoon of finely chopped fruit in a dish and 1cm square pieces of some sort of cake, served with black tea. Hmmmm. Our room was very quiet, clean and comfortable with magnificent views of the jungle. The gardens are immaculate with the sound of natural water running through the property. We were unaware of the Japanese influence in the hotel, and to be perfectly honest, we had difficulty selecting our meals. We have travelled extensively, including to Japan and South Korea, and love Asian food, but we didn't come to Indonesia to eat the Japanese cuisine. No alternatives wrote on offer. There is no casual Cafe in this hotel, it is isolated, so you are essentially a captive audience once you're there. A shuttle is provided twice a day into Ubud, but you're basically dumped "somewere" and told you'll be picked up five hours later at the same place. No maps or information are provided. After two hours in the high heat, high humidity and lack of shade, we'd had enough and took a Grab back (Rp220,000). On our last night we had dinner and went to bed early (we were tired from walking around Ubud) and the bedroom lighting is so bad it's impossible to read a book. At 11.20pm we were woken by our phone ringing. It was reception saying they'd had a noise complaint, and asked if we were playing loud music? Really? We are in our mid 70s and we do enjoy music (it wasn't us by the way) but what the hell is wrong with the Duty Manager walking around to investigate the noise complaint instead of ringing several rooms in that wing at that hour of the night??? My wife has trouble sleeping at the best of times, she was still awake at 4am, so neither of us were impressed with this. We finally managed to have our Balinese massage on our last morning, and it was well worth it. Ana and Lidia were fantastic. We arrived for our booking the previous morning, only to find reception staff had not completed the booking! Would we stay again? No, and we wouldn't recommend it either. If you are a Japanese honeymooner, perhaps it's for you.
