Akumal Bay Beach & Wellness Resort

We had a wonderful 2 weeks at Akumal Bay. What makes this place special is the staff, who really go above and beyond. We stayed in a Junior Suite with Garden View and Terrace with Private Whirlpool, which was a lovely addition and it was nicely located close to the pool and beach. I recommend attending the turtle talk to learn more about the turtles and history of Akumal Bay! Room has everything you need - fridge that’s restocked daily with canned drinks, hairdryer and soft towels. There were also robes but ours were cleaned up on the first day and never replaced so unfortunately didn’t get to use them throughout the stay. We paid extra for a massage, it was a lovely treat and the spa facilities were lovely. The gym is basic but nice and spacious. We booked our trip with TUI as well as all of our excursions. The only excursion we wouldn’t recommend booking from this hotel is the swimming with turtles - as you can simply walk down the beach and book directly for cheaper. Recommend booking beach shoes for any day trips and cenotes - we got a lot of use out of ours. In terms of food and drink, restaurants and drinks selection was ample - we mainly ate within the main buffet - always plenty of space and gorgeous views! One extra tip - get up for sunrise, you won’t regret it!!

What can you say about this place, 99% of it will be be good. When you arrive, you are met with drnks and cool flannels, and after about 16 hours of travelling, this was very much welcomed! The team at the reception desk set the precedent, and all staff on site were extremely helpful and friendly. We had an issue with the ground floor sliding door, and this took 3 attempts for the maintenance team to resolve, and an issue where the water pipe from above us dripping on us when laying on the sunbeds outside our room that never got fixed or resolved, other than that a really nice time had. Our room was right next to a small little privatey pool, which was lovely to have near us, and about 20 steps past that was the most amazing beach and views you could have asked for. Lizards are a plenty wandering round, theydo not bite or anything, just plodding around ignoring humans, was lovely to see them in a natural style habitat without the humans bothering them! Yes, the seaweed is an issue for this bay, but this is not the hotel's fault and there are teams working tirelessly to try to bring this under control. I would say though, if you are travlling with children who like plkaying on the beach in the sand,, this might not be an ideal place for them, as some days the beach was pretty clogged up with seaweed and then the tractors and trucks trying to reduce it. We found the food a little let down being honest, the ala-carte restaurants were not overly special, but the efforts of the staff to make it enjoyable were worth the visits. The buffet was good considering trying to cook for up to 600 people, and offered variety. I would suggest asking the staff what the dishes are, as there wasnt much clue on what you were eating in some of the dishes. All in all, a lovely place, and would definitely be on our list to return in the future. Special mention to Danielle and Juan Carlos in the restaurants for always being so friendly and helpful.

I had another wonderful stay at Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort for 1 week at the end of April 2025. I booked my transfer from Cancun Airport. I used Canada Tours, and there was a man with a sign and my name on it. It is about an hour's drive, so I wanted to go directly with my own driver and vehicle. They were prompt and professional. The Staff at the Resort are so welcoming, from the moment you arrive, there is always someone to help or ask, and they just make your stay wonderful. The resort is beautiful, right on the ocean with a constant breeze! It is very hot in April! My room was a 2-story penthouse with a very clean and comfortable 3rd floor bedroom and bath, and a marvelous Jacuzzi tub and lounge chairs on the 4th floor! After a day at the beach it is such a treat to use the delightful spa bath crystals included in your room and have a glass of wine from your stocked refrigerator while soaking in the private 4th floor tub. The snorkelling is amazing just right off the shore, so many fish and coral to admire! The beach Staff is very attentive with drinks right to your beach chair. They were always so polite and attentive. Angel was the fellow with the daily towels; he did a wonderful job, along with German, the beach manager. The Resort has wonderful dining options, the large buffet for breakfast lunch and dinner is diverse and delicious, lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, pizza, breads and the homemade ice cream is divine! My favorite two fine dining spots were Alux, with contemporary Mexican cuisine, and their fish Tacos were great, and the Staff were always attentive. I also enjoyed Kooben, they served a mushroom soup that I craved! Their salmon dish and steak dish were also excellent, you must have the chocolate bomb dessert! Again very professional wait staff. I had 2 deep tissue massages at the Spa, once again the staff there were excellent! So polite and helpful, from the intense steam sauna to the whirlpool with a refreshing drink then to a quiet room for your massage. The Staff at the Spa are so good at their job, it was worth the treat! Housekeeping and room service staff were great, my room was spotless and clean after a day at the beach, any requests were handled quickly, they helped make my stay wonderful. I look forward to return next year!

A 10-night stay at Akumal Bay Beach & Wellness Resort turned out to be one of the most memorable hotel experiences. The location is unbeatable—right on a stunning beach with everything close at hand—and the service is outstanding. What really set the stay apart was the staff. From the moment of arrival, they made everyone feel like part of the family, going out of their way to offer warmth and care. A special mention goes to Hector, Julio, and Holi, whose kindness, attention to detail, and welcoming smiles truly stood out. It’s rare to come across such exceptional hospitality. For anyone thinking of booking, don’t think twice. This place is a solid 10/10.
