We travelled to Sri Lanka as a family, many of them visiting for the first time. Having grown up there, I had always spoken about the country’s hospitality, and I am glad to say Aliya Resort & Spa truly delivered. From the moment we arrived, the welcome felt genuine. The team were warm, attentive, and consistently went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. My youngest, a very particular 3-year-old, was especially well looked after, which made a big difference to our stay. We stayed in Room 40, which was spacious, clean, and very well laid out for a family. With two adults, two teenagers, and an active toddler, space matters, and this room handled it easily. There was plenty of storage, a comfortable main bed, and the teenagers loved their attic space with two single beds. Our toddler happily shared our bed, and overall it worked perfectly for us. The surroundings are stunning. The views are beautiful and the grounds are very well maintained. Despite the heat and lack of rain, everything was kept in excellent condition. The resort is easy to walk around, with clear paths and even ramps for wheelchair accessibility, which was great to see. Safety-wise, the resort felt secure and well managed. There was visible security, attentive pool staff, and the team checked for allergies at the start of our stay, which showed good attention to detail. There was one minor incident where our stepdaughter got briefly stuck in the bathroom. It was resolved, but it would be helpful if door locks and handles were reviewed to make them easier and safer to use. The food was excellent throughout. There was plenty of variety, and even our fussy eaters found something they enjoyed. Breakfast was a highlight, a wide selection, fresh, and more than enough to start the day properly. It genuinely felt like a “breakfast fit for a king”. One of the standout parts of our stay was the activities. The hotel contacted me via WhatsApp before we arrived and shared options, which made planning very easy. We chose a safari to Hurulu Eco Park, and despite the fuel situation at the time, the hotel arranged everything smoothly. Seeing elephants in the wild was unforgettable. My partner was genuinely emotional, it brought tears to her eyes. Being that close to such incredible animals is something you never forget. We had also planned a boat ride, but in true family fashion, the toddler and teenagers opted for relaxing instead, so we cancelled and enjoyed the facilities at the hotel. A couple of small tips for future guests. There is a slight gap between the wooden panels around the pool area, so worth keeping an eye on little things, Also, dinner starts at 7.30pm, which may feel a bit late if you have little ones, so planning a slightly later lunch helps. Overall, this was an exceptional stay. Warm people, beautiful surroundings, and a place that made our family feel genuinely welcome. When your teenagers say they would happily move to Sri Lanka after a holiday, you know you have chosen the right place. We would definitely return.
