We really enjoyed staying here last week. There were so many positives. The only negatives were completely outside of the hotels control. Firstly check in was smooth, quick and efficient. Room was cleaned nicely each day. Lovely view of the AIN Dubai wheel and Jumeriah beach. We were on a dine around all inclusive and whilst this meant slightly restricted options in the restaurants, I didn’t feel this was unreasonable. The food in the buffet was lovely for all meals, the Italian was great, The JB pub was good and we didn’t try the Tepanyaki owing to fussy kids. During the daytime the food from the pool bar/Italian was also great. Being all inclusive also meant included drinks and this was really well done across all bars and restaurants. Premium drinks across the board. The one thing that set this place apart was the staff, honestly they as a collective were the best hotel staff I’ve ever come across and this made our holiday. No one person stood out, all were phenomenal. Now the downsides, the pool is a little small and owing to the building design cannot really be changed. Made it a challenge getting a sunbed during the peak hours of 11am -4pm. Secondly - Dubai as a whole has exceeded its capacity. I’ve been there several times in the last 14 years and have seen it get progressively worse and it’s now at breaking point. T1 at the airport is now a zoo, the metro is unusable for large parts of the day as it is so full and the traffic is a farce. Getting from the south end of the marina to the palm entrance can take 40 minutes to travel less than 2 miles and if there’s any kind of accident on the main road then it causes chaos. Despite this more and more high rise hotels and apartment blocks continue to be built - without infrastructure improvements in the form of more metro trains, increased frequency of trams and better pedestrian friendly routes, it will only add to the mess. Attractions are also too busy because of over tourism. Queues at major attractions are really big and ruin the experience. We went to the Burj at 5am to avoid, I think because of the above I probably won’t return to Dubai and will look at quieter options such as Abu Dhabi and Qatar for future winter holidays but Amwaj Rotana was a great place to stay.
