don’t tend to leave reviews and debated back and forth about leaving one, however I feel I visited a completely different hotel to the reviews I’m seeing on here. After visiting several Sensatori hotels in the past, we thought we would give this one a go. The grounds are beautiful and the food is nice; however, I feel this is where it ends. Pools & Water Although we visited at the start of October, the pools were absolutely freezing. We paid extra for a swim-up room and I couldn’t go in. My two young boys and husband could only manage five minutes and had to get out, with my youngest’s lips turning blue and shaking. The hotel is very much sold on pools and I at least expected one outside pool to be heated. I spoke with the guest relations manager, who was nice and explained why the pools were cold (something to do with filters) and said they are set at a certain temperature of around 22 degrees. I would bet my life that the water was not 22 degrees. Even grown men were complaining to the reps about the water being colder than the ice buckets at the gym. Not enjoyable at all, and as most of our time on holiday is spent in the pools, this ruined it for us. I only wish I had a thermometer with me to prove this, as I’m pretty sure the water needs to be a certain temperature as a regulation. Buffet Restaurant Absolute nightmare trying to get a drink. Every morning I had to get up and ask for a cup of tea and was told to sit back down and they would come over to me. Most mornings I wouldn’t get one; some mornings I would be served lukewarm water and no teabags on the table or sugar. I would’ve quite happily made my own if there was a tea station, but there wasn’t — only one for coffee. The staff seem more concerned about clearing tables than coming over to offer drinks, although they are very slow, so the place does look untidy. At dinner you can only have soft drinks, beer or wine. No spirits (vodka, malibu etc). This is certainly not Sensatori standards and I was quite taken aback, especially when I’ve visited Mexico and Turkey, where there are no issues serving frozen cocktails. Whilst on the subject of frozen cocktails, these are only available during the day when the slush machine is on and stop during the night. The kids’ mocktails aren’t good at all — no fun rainbow-style ones, just weird fizzy ones. There aren’t any toilets around the activity pool, so if you need one you have to go back to your room or through to the lobby/main pool. There is a toilet down the stairs at the main pool, but no lift for wheelchair users and also no baby-changing facilities. The only baby-changing facility is in the lobby area, which had a torn and discoloured changing mat. I dread to think what germs this was holding. Definitely not five-star and needs replaced. We stayed in a family swim-up room. They provided a cot for my two-year-old, which was kind; however, it wasn’t required as my son sleeps in a bed. The bed was quite high, so I requested a bed guard (a safety feature so my son doesn’t fall out and seriously damage his head); however, I was told I had to pay for this. Absolutely ridiculous that a safety feature is chargeable, especially in a Sensatori hotel. After speaking with guest relations, they very kindly removed this charge; however, I presume this was just for me and wouldn’t be a change going forward. There is a seperate chargeable outside company patisserie and the cakes look amazing… HOWEVER, again, most Sensatoris have a Thea’s Coffee Shop which is included in the package. This could’ve easily been one, and I’m unsure why it isn’t. Some staff are rude. One night I asked for a tea but forgot to ask for it in a takeaway cup, so I said, “Sorry, could I get it in a takeaway cup?” and they rolled their eyes and changed it. We visited the American snack bar; however, we were told we couldn’t sit down and that it was takeaway only. Looking at the times, we were well within the sit-down time, so I’m unsure why we had to take it away. We found out that people could pay for a day trip to the hotel, which included using the restaurants. The hotel was so busy and didn’t feel inclusive for us at all. This was not made clear when booking, and if I had known, I wouldn’t have booked. You could tell who the local day guests were, as they came into the restaurant in big groups and were served quickly, leaving us holidaygoers — who have paid thousands — still waiting to be served a drink. Entertainment Although they tried their best, I feel there weren’t any classic holiday songs — just modern songs they have made their own actions up for, which is a shame as a lot of children couldn’t keep up. It would’ve been nice to have at least a couple of well-known “holiday” songs. There didn’t seem to be any wow-factor entertainment and it was purely singing or stand-up. I do feel this is across the Sensatori brand, so not just this hotel. Finally, on our last day we chose to use the changing facilities instead of paying extra. This seemed all good until you go to use the showers and there is nowhere to put your clothes or towels while showering. The only options are to get undressed in the shower cubicle and put your clothes outside the shower door, or get undressed in the changing cubicle, wrap a towel around you, go to the shower, take off the towel and open the door slightly (in the hope no one can see you standing there naked) to put your towel on the floor — which isn’t hygienic — and then open the door again once finished showering to get your towel back. Unless you’re bold as brass and get naked in the changing cubicle and walk to the shower — but I wouldn’t have been impressed seeing this with my children. There are no hooks to hang your towel in the shower cubicle or even outside the door. Again, another head-scratcher for a five-star Sensatori hotel. Guest relations were very quick at getting back to my issues, so I do appreciate that. However, I won’t be back and still argue the hotel shouldn’t be a Sensatori without some major improvements, as it does have potential. I wish we had a better experience and do feel bad writing such a negative review, but I need to get my points across as I wouldn’t want other families spending all that money and having the same poor experience as us when expecting the “Sensatori” experience. Stick to Sorgun, Turkey.
