Family trip to Barcelo

Group travelling for a wedding. Guests were placed in multiple towers. Food was poor to average. Availability for the reserved dinner nights was terrible. Was unable to find a table of 6 at any restaurant in a week at any time. Disappointing to go on a family trip and not be able to eat a dinner together. Buffets were the same food everyday. Check in process sometimes took over an hour. Would not visit again. Would not recommend.

We have been going to this resort for 7 years and each time is always memorable. The staff is always accommodating and friendly. We look forward to seeing them each year. The property and the food has continued to improve and have a variety of options that are always great to meet the needs for the kids and us. Looking forward to the next trip already.

This resort is huge but the grounds are well kept. If you like walking this is your resort to go to… Our room was good and spacious and we had a very nice quiet spot compared to others travelling with us that had rooms by the pool and the loud partiers yelling until 5 in-the morning… The staff are not that friendly..especially up front at the front desk..they seemed inconvenienced…the water guy just barges in your room after slightly knocking…not good, My son’s t-shirt went missing ( he was going to wear it the day we left) from our room the last day we were there so…lock up your items …. As other reviews the beach chairs were non existent..all taken by towels…very disappointing…..I thought the food was pretty good and good variety and I liked that they had a “ human being” available for booking the Al a carts…way better than an app…. Would I go back….no…..there are better options out there….maybe because it was Spring Break it was just too busy and noisy for me….

We have just returned from a week at the Barcelo Maya Colonial. All in all it was okay. The resort itself is well kept and very nice. The weather was perfect. Pros: - weather - Barcy kids club staff!!! These ladies are terrific and do such a good job with the littles. Our 4 and 6 year old LOVED their time there and the ladies were so kind and welcoming. - The ability to use the other properties - Kids waterpark area is fantastic and keeps kids amused for hours on end - seafood restaurant was decent Cons: - The food. To say lacking variety is an understatement. And the quality was just not good. If you wanted hot food, good luck. - A La Cartes, trying to secure a reasonable time to eat at an à la carte was hard to do. We managed to secure three and all were pretty empty. The system of booking through a human is very outdated compared to competitors with their use of apps and the ability pre-book a week prior to your arrival. -Drinks. Just bad. Lowest grade booze we’ve encountered and the mixes that they use are just so sweet. I had one good Margarita Fresca my entire stay and that was made by a bartender at the Tropical lobby bar. -Staff. Staff here are not friendly. They act as if you are an inconvenience to them. There is no general feeling of hospitality here. - Chair game. The chair game here is next level. Getting up at the crack of dawn just to ensure you have somewhere to sit is insane. We have encountered this on previous trips, but never to this degree. There clearly is a shortage on chairs and the hotel should address this. For context we travel a lot and I would say that this hotel leaves a lot to be desired. There are better options out there.
