Hello: We could not get the Barcelo "Colonial" to pull up on Trip Advisor so we labeled this Colonial. We had an excellent vacation with many PROS and only one major CON which resulted in this being a much lower grade. It could have easily been a Very Good or Excellent grade. First, this is about my 10th or 15th time at the Barcelo and I have stayed at the Tropical once and the Palace once, remaining times at the Colonial. I got married two years ago so this was our 3rd time as a couple at the Colonial in two years, last time being in Sept. 2025. We had an excellent room at the Jalisco building, only 90 seconds from the Colonial pool, and maybe only a 3 minute walk to the Main Buffett. This was our 3rd time in two years staying at the Jalisco and we had a back jungle view that was very nice. The room was excellent, great housekeeping/maid service/mini-fridge, very good selections of food at the Main Buffett & the El Mariachi by the Colonial Pool. We had breakfast and dinner nearly every day at the Main Buffett and we had reservation-only dinners at the Santa Fe and Kyoto two nights. Apparently, the Santa Fe had to shut down for a few days for some reason unknown to us so we had to get what reservations we could that week. I had the Ribeye at Santa Fe and my wife had the beef kabob, both excellent with great service. A suggestion, as soon as you check in upon arrival, go to the "Customer Service" office just next to the "Colonial" check-in desk, and make your dinner reservations because it is hit and miss, certain days they may be booked up at the Santa Fe and Kyoto. Also, our Amstar rep was Omar and he did a great job getting us an affordable excursion for Coba and Rio Secreto. Our guide was Aaron and he was great, super command of English language, and he was very enthusiastic, A very good lunch buffet was served after our Rio Secreto trip, then the 90 min. drive to Coba. Only negative side as this was a 9-hour trip, leaving at 8:00 AM and returning after 5:00 PM. Ok, here is the CON side of our trip and this has been the same situation I have encountered in the years going to Barcelo. I have written Trip Advisor reviews on this after every trip and it seems never to improve. My wife and I enjoy trying to relax quietly at the Colonial pool and beach side. But half the time it is impossible due to the loud music and loudspeaker blaring at the Tropical Pool. It is either the entertainment director screaming into a microphone or just the loud dance/disco music with such high bass Boom, Boom, Boom for hours without stopping. They have a large industrial size concert speaker so this is not light music, but very loud. This sometimes starts as early as 9 AM and ends around 5 PM if you're lucky. This music carries easily 150 to 200 yards so you cannot escape it. Our last trip there in Sept. 2025 was the worst and we almost went to another resort this year but wanted to give Barcelo one more try. This year it was so loud but thankfully it was about half the time we were there. One day Both the Tropical and Palace pools were so loud and intrusive. Last year I tried unsuccessfully by walking to the Tropical pool and pleaded with the pool director to "please" turn the volume down but all he said was "I have to entertain everyone." Footnote, I have been visiting Cancun for 42 years and this loud music is not entertainment. Other than the loud music at the pool, Barcelo is a very nice place to stay at and I would normally give the rating of Very Good or Excellent. I would hope that the Barcelo management reads this so they can attract others who simply just want to relax, read a book, and not feel smothered by the loud pool noise. One last suggestion to management. We noticed the last 3 years that at the large screen theater in-between the Colonial and Tropical, most of the evening shows were tailored to children's kiddie shows, cabarets, etc. We only saw one or two guests walking through the show and they did not stay. But last week we only saw one brief show of great 60s and 70s live music onscreen. Many years ago I saw two EXCELLENT shows there with Sting and Donna Summer. We would love for Barcelo to have mature music at the theater more often. I hope my comments help and hope management follows up on the noise issue. We hope to return in the next 8 months or so if the music issue improves! K&D
