I’m mainly writing this review for anyone who is planning on staying bed & breakfast at Batihan Vadi in the hope that it answers some of your questions. Before arriving I had lots of questions about the B&B concept but couldn’t find answers as most other reviewers on Tripadvisor seemed to have stayed AI. I’d also emailed the hotel with my questions twice beforehand but they’d failed to reply on either occasion. Room and grounds - We were a family of 2A+1C (9 years old), booked with easyjet holidays staying for 10 nights in room 20 which is a 1+1 superior villa. It was peaceful and very private (not all villas seemed quite as private) and well equipped - A.C., fridge, laptop safe, nespresso machine, tv’s, large bottles of shower gel/ shampoo/ conditioner/ hand soap/ hand & body moisturiser, hair dryer, hand towels, bath towels and blue pool towels (we did have to ask for a 3rd bath and pool towels), slippers, bathrobes, sewing/ shaving/ toothbrush/ comb/ shoe shine kits. The Pool is the same depth throughout (1.4m) and large at about 10mx4m. There was a nice breeze most days that came up the valley from the sea which seemed to keep the mosquitoes away most of the time and cooled the air. There was a Cabana outside together with shower and spa bath tub (it’s not a hot tub). Wifi was free and generally a good speed. There were about 10 sets of light switches throughout the villa, but none worked except the main set of switches by the front door. I raised this with reception and housekeeping but nobody did anything. The room and grounds need a bit of attention too; there was wood warping on the outside wooden structure of the villa revealing the metal frame, cracked tiles inside the villa and around the pool, the pool ladder was wobbly and insecure, interior lights on the wall and chandelier were at wonky angles, shelves fitted wrong way up in bathroom, door frame in bathroom splitting, electronic ‘do not disturb/ housekeeping’ panel by front door missing, no sink plug; I didn’t report any of this as I didn’t see the point seeing as no action was taken over the light switches not working. There was even a bike laying on the ground outside a villa a few doors up from us… after a few days I decided to pick it up and rest it against a wall but it was obvious it had been there for quite some time as it was rusting and parts of it had sunk in to the ground. There were no recycling bins in the villa. Loved the nature (olive trees, citrus fruit trees, doves, swallows, great tits, wagtails, birds of prey, geese, ducks, fish, bats, lizards, peacocks, guinea fowl, flamingo, butterflies etc) but really not sure what the purpose of the zoo (deer, shetland pony, emu and ostrich) was. It also made me sad to see kids regularly chasing the peacocks and guinea fowl. The layout of the resort is also a bit disjointed and clumsy IMO. The eastern and western ends of the hotel are separated by a car park; its a shame as we were at the western end and rather than strolling peacefully through the hotel grounds to the restaurant, you walk through a car park whilst trying to avoid cars and golf buggies (which seem to have right of way). Also a lot of the ‘service areas’ around the hotel are in full view of guests and there seems to be several small areas that aren’t landscaped or utilised and seem just laid to waste, particularly at the eastern end. WhatsApp room service - I sometimes didn’t know if our room service order would arrive as a couple of times we didn’t get an acknowledgment or reply that they’d received our order (no double blue ticks either indicating the whatsapp had been read). B&B concept - We were bed & breakfast. The concept we were told by the receptionist when we checked-in included breakfast from the O’Garden menu EITHER at the O’Garden restaurant itself OR in the room at NO EXTRA CHARGE. I know he definitely said this as I paid particular attention to him as I came to the hotel with unanswered queries about their B&B concept. They even confirmed this in a WhatsApp (The following is copied from their WhatsApp message- “Our facility provides service in the bed and breakfast concept. You can have your breakfast as a mixed breakfast at O’Garden Restaurant between 09.00 and 13.00, or as a breakfast plate to your room if you wish”) together with the O’Garden menu as a PDF. The receptionist even had a hard copy of the O’Garden menu and made the point of showing what we could have as room service for breakfast for free as part of the concept. It seemed very generous and too good to be true… and unfortunately, it was. Day one and two we ate breakfast at the ogarden restaurant. Day three we ordered breakfast to the room with no problems. However, on the fourth day there was issues with breakfast when delivered to the room. We pretty much had the same thing for breakfast every morning at ogarden or in our room but on the fourth morning we were told some of our ‘usual’ items were ‘extra’; we’d not previously been told any of these items were extra. I said, ok to being charged for the extras but when the food came they tried charging for everything. I refused to sign the bill and went to reception and even they didn’t seem to know what was included and what wasn’t. All they kept on saying was anything in addition to the standard Breakfast was extra. I asked the Receptionist what the ‘standard Breakfast’ was and they WhatsApp’d me the ogarden room service menu once again by PDF which didn’t help at all in clarifying the concept. I gave up at this point. On the 5th day I ordered breakfast to the room again and was told I would have to pay for extras. I asked them exactly what was ‘extra’ but this time they sent me a completely different PDF menu (oda kahvalti) for breakfast in the room; not the Ogarden room service one they’d sent 2 times previously. This ‘new’ menu showed what the standard ‘Turkish’ Breakfast was (a platter of Cheese and olive varieties, tomato and cucumber plate, pastrami, jam varieties, tahini molasses, chocolate cream, honey, butter, clotted cream, dried fruits, pancakes, pastry, French fries , boiled eggs). With all this confusion over concept I gave up (again) and went for breakfast at Ogarden instead. Whilst there I explained to a waiter what had happened and he laughed and said regarding the management “…they change (their mind) daily”. On day 7 and 8 we ordered the ‘standard Turkish breakfast’ to the room and there were no issues and it was an amazing spread of food. I don’t know why it took 5 days, lots of Whatsapps, 2 visits to Reception and 2 different menus to get some clarity on the concept. I found their replies on WhatsApp didn’t answer my queries. They never apologised for their mistake of not providing the correct B&B menu until Day 5 of our holiday and made me feel like I was stupid and to blame. Looking at other reviews, I don’t believe I am the only one who has lacked clarity over their concepts, be it AI or B&B. Another reviewer (Nicola S) suggests its a lack of management at the hotel and I’m inclined to agree particularly after the waiter’s comments. So please, Batihan Vadi management, rather than just replying to this review with a copy and paste reply of “…we’re glad you enjoyed your stay with us”, show you have read this looooong review and perhaps admit you need to provide better clarity with your concepts AND ensure consistency throughout a guests stay in the way your staff apply the concept. Breakfast was served 9am-1pm which really suited us as we’d often have a late breakfast, miss lunch and then just have dinner. I think not being AI saved us about £700 in the holiday… my bill at the end of the holiday was £900 but to have gone AI would have been £1600. Ogarden also do toast, fruit platter, bread and fries for breakfast which aren’t on the menu. Likewise, for lunch and dinner Ogarden also do burgers, cheeseburgers and chicken burgers but they aren’t on the menu. This years menu prices in Ogarden had just been stapled over old prices; this didn’t really give the impression of a quality hotel. Rodolfo does burgers, cheeseburgers, margarita pizza, crispy chicken, meatballs and turkish sausage. There were some errors with our order in rodolfo and ogarden - for instance we ordered a vanilla milkshake but got banana, ordered a rum and coke but got vodka and coke. We also booked Radika one night. We were the first ones in to the restaurant shortly after 6pm. We finished our starter and main but then waited an hour for someone to come take our order for dessert. By that point (8pm) we were bored so asked for the bill and left. There were 20 other covers in the restaurant by that point with one staff member doing everything (maitre d, waiter, bartender) I think more help is needed in Radika (i.e. one bartender, one waiter). My partners starter and main course were only luke warm too - I believe all the food gets cooked at ogarden and then transported down to Radika. Other food and drinks could be ordered to room at 10% extra of menu cost. Ordered beers and one time I’d finished a drink to find a large piece of broken glass (about 5cm in length) at the bottom of the glass together with a couple of small shards. From what I could see, they hadn’t broken off from the glass I was drinking from. I can’t complain about the food itself though; it was all good if a little on the expensive side for what it was (i.e. £100 for 1 soft drink, 1 alcoholic drink, 1 milkshake, lamb chops, chicken caesar salad, burger and chips and a single scoop of ice cream in ogarden). Bottled water in the room was included in the package as was tea and coffee in the room. Sometimes Cocktails and milkshakes were watery depending on who had made them - too much ice and mixer in cocktails. Drinks were a little on the expensive side too particularly those with spirits - about £11 for a double and mixer. No kids menu as such - I think a small menu should be on offer. Buckroo burgers was never open during our stay in peak season. The Bakery had a small choice of cakes, doughnuts and there was an ice-cream stand too (£2 a scoop) - the bartender in Rodolfo would serve the ice-cream but you pay in Vadi Goods. There was a small Shop (Vadi Goods) with a small choice of toiletries, snacks, soft and alcoholic drinks. There was either karaoke or a mini-disco most evenings at Rodolfo. Guests seemed to be Turkish and British. I think this hotel is good for couples and families with young children who want to relax and pretty much do nothing else. We loved the a la carte dining rather than the hustle and bustle at AI buffet hotels. We loved how quiet and relaxing it was (with the exception of the stress mid-holiday of the B&B concept). I don’t think it’s particularly suited to teenagers- even though we did see a couple - as probably not enough for them to do. In summary, for those that think this is a 5* hotel, it’s not, and in all fairness, I don’t think the hotel advertises itself as that. People think because a hotel has 5 ‘bubbles’ on tripadvisor it’s 5 ‘star’. To be 5 star, the customer service from Reception and attention to detail in the rooms and around the grounds would need to significantly improve. I think that the Batihan Vadi has the makings of a great hotel if it can sort out some simple issues. But… did we enjoy staying here, did we enjoy the privacy of a villa coupled with the convenience and amenities of a hotel, did we think the price point was about right and would we consider coming here again if looking for a truly relaxing and peaceful holiday? The answer to all of these is a YES, so it’s 5 tripadvisor ‘bubbles’ from us.
