The first thing you need to be made aware of if booking this hotel is the transfer from the airport is 2.5 hours around windy roads, up and down the mountain in a minibus. We recently stayed at this hotel in a ground floor room towards the end of the right hand side. Yes, the rooms are basic, but it is a 3 star hotel which I would rate as a good 3 star. The air con is excellent, the shower is good, the bed is large and comfy. Unfortunately there is loud music from a venue next door on Friday nights and Saturday nights but this is out of the hotel's control. It goes on to well after 2am.... The room was cleaned to a good standard. They could do with some signs for the door stating 'Please do not disturb' or 'Please clean the room' as on a couple of occasions the maid came into the room in an afternoon at an inappropriate time. The pool is nice and clean and a lovely temperature, not even cold early in a morning.... unfortunately there are no umbrellas around the pool which is annoying, especially as other Bay Gardens hotels in the area have them. There are plenty of sunbeds as they have recently purchased additional ones. All the external areas are clean and tidy. There is one bar which is outside by the pool. Drinks flow plentiful. Not much seating area. The green rum punch does give a punch.... There is no entertainment as such, just a karaoke night one evening which starts at 4.30pm ! If Shem is on the bar he will start an ad hoc sing night, he loves to sing and dance and the bar is always lively when he is on. Sometimes in an afternoon the music is played too loud when guests are trying to relax so I did have to ask for it to be turned down a couple of times, as no one was by the pool, but I do appreciate it is difficult to please everyone. The hotel was quite quiet when we were there, I doubt even half full. Most people are on a B&B basis but we were AI. the breakfast is buffet with plenty of choice hot or cold. A couple of nights there was a buffet, but mostly it was order from the menu, which was always quite slow from ordering to food being served, even when there were not many people in the restaurant. All the staff are very pleasant. This hotel is not really close to any bars or souvenir shops. It was difficult to get a trip organised. I booked a trip through our rep to be told the day before that it wasn't operating as there weren't enough people, it was only going on the island tour in a jeep. Also the hotel offer a trip to the local town, but again needs 12 people for the trip to go. We used the shuttle bus regularly to go to the other Bay Gardens hotels. The Bay Gardens Hotel and Inn is about 20/25 minute walk away if you fancy a walk. The bus goes about quarter past the hour. We could use our AI at the Bay Gardens Hotel and Inn and all the facilities there. One evening when we went there they had a singer on which was a good night, but even at this hotel, the entertainment is sparse. This hotel is around the corner from the shops so a good location. The BG Beach hotel - we could not use our AI here and had to pay for food and drinks. What was annoying was that we were told that we could not sit around the pool there as it was not fair on their guests. I did though as this hotel was also very quiet. The beach is a public beach so there are hawkers trying to sell their wares, but they don't hassle you. The beds and shades are free. The waterpark was a big let down. It is just some inflatables in the sea - not what we thought it would be. Be wary that the seafloor drops quite a bit when walking into the sea. All in all we enjoyed our week stay at this hotel before moving onto Tobago.
