Berjaya Hotel Colombo

Arrived at the hotel and was greeted by friendly staff. We were shown to our room and this was when the issues began. - 1st room, filthy - literally wipe your finger across the surfaces and dust, toilet hadn't been cleaned, and holes in the bed linen. - 2nd room acceptable but the walls were so thin we could hear what sounded like the occupant next door coughing up their lung, to be fair couldn't really fault the hotel for the patron in the next room. - 3rd and final available room, which we had to accept was a twin… not ideal for a couple of a romantic getaway. It was clear that the website pictures were not taken recently as they did not do the hotel justice... not in a good way. Room service - we ordered 2 meals, one was the wrong meal completely, and the other meal, was meant to be lactose free (no milk, diary, butter products), however lets just say the supposedly lactose free Spaghetti Bolognese was a tad lighter and creamier than expected and unfortuatenly a few hours later medication was required. It was also problematic that there were some substantial communication barriers with the waiter, to such an extent that we had to request another member of staff from the front desk to attend and assist. Next to the hotel there is an active train line, which started very early in the morning (04:30) and there was a nightclub about 500m from the hotel. On one of the nights of the stay was open and was quite loud. I afraid of all the hotels/resorts where I've stayed, this is the first one which I would not recommend nor plan to visit again.

The stay has been comfortable and service has been very welcoming. We were assisted well by all staff who were friendly and would attend to anything we required. The F&B manager Roshan (Leo) was very accomodating and friendly also which gives a great customer experience.

I am currently staying in Room 220. There is a strong, unpleasant smell in the room, and it feels very old and poorly maintained. I checked a few other rooms as well, and all of them have a weird odor. The condition is not up to the mark, and the rooms clearly need renovation. It would be better if you could shift my stay to a different hotel, if that option is available. Thank you.

We followed the reviews on Google and were totally misled. Unfortunately we discovered that the hotel staff was using clients names and writing reviews as though the client wrote same. Worse still, they would give themselves 5 stars. This is not possible, because the hotel is run down, the room we had, was so outdated in respect of furnishings. The aircon was dripping water, the bathroom needs emergency cleaning and the cupboard holding the sink left much to be desired. The headboard veneer was bulging in places and the cupboard could not be opened for fear of it falling onto you. The kettle left one wondering about the general state of cleanliness at the establishment. The dining area carpet seemed to have not been cleaned in ages. The corridors lack ventilation. Overall I would give this hotel 1 out of 5.
