Blue Horizon Hotel

I booked a last minute trip and stayed at the Blue Horizon for two nights with my two young children. The hotel staff were all incredibly friendly and the room was immaculately clean. The included continental breakfast was plentiful and there was a choice to have hot items at a charge. The pool was cleaned daily and the water was warm. The hotel itself is across the road from Rockley beach and in walking distance to many eateries. Quayside which has a mini mart and several food options is about a 3 minute walk. If you fancy something a little more special, Champers is practically opposite or Tapas restaurant a 10 minute walk away. For the price you can’t argue and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. Thank you for a short but very sweet trip.

From the beginning: - Hotel location excellent : Rockley Beach across the street, The Gap a short walk away and lots of food options to the right and left of the hotel. Grocery store (Masseys) is about a 15 min walk away but handy for anything you may need. - Beautiful gardens at front of hotel lobby area - Check-in a breeze (thank you Erica) - Old school door key! No electronic keyless entry here - Staff will assist you with your bags especially if on 2nd or 3rd floor..NO ELEVATORS!!!! So beware - The gardens throughout the property are beautiful and so well maintained So now you are checked in: - hotel buildings are older, but property is immaculate no matter where you go - you may be leery of the door to your room and having to unlock old-school deadbolt, but hey it works! - Furniture is older, but well maintained. Dressers and bedside tables are that heavy wood but who cares? You will either use them if you are an “unpacker” or leave all your stuff in your suitcase. - We had a deluxe room so kitchen, living area and bedroom, bathroom. Let’s break it down by rooms now…Kitchen was convenient with full size fridge, stovetop, microwave, kettle and toaster. Had all the dishes and utensils you might need for quick and easy food prep and cooking. My suggestions to hotel would be: cutting board, scissors, mixing bowl(s) and plastic glasses. Living room: comfy couch and a chair, table and tv..basic but you aren’t in Barbados to spend time watching tv in your room. Bedroom: We had a kingsize bed- wow best sleeps of my life!! Loved the mattress and the pillows..sheets were white and crisp and clean! No evidence of bed bugs anywhere either. Lots of closet and storage space.Ironing board and iron plus a Safe in cupboard which is great for storing passports etc. Bathroom: Great size, one sink, lots of hanging space for towels, bathing suits etc. Towels were always white and lots of them. Shower is huge with great water pressure. Hotel does supply standard hotel sized shampoo, body wash etc. Balcony: table and 2 chairs and perfect for sipping whatever liquid beverage you chose before or after a long day. Now off to explore the property: - Pool and restaurant located in middle of property surrounded by rooms. - Beautiful gardens - Grounds keepers are amazing! - Pool is sparkling - 12 or so pool loungers with umbrellas….never more than 4 people at pool our whole stay. None of the usual bullcrap of running down to “save” your chairs and in fact if you did that most of the guests would think you were an a**! Definitely not the same mentality as being on a large resort. - Lots of shaded areas around pool with chairs and tables Restaurant: - Continental breakfast is ample to get your day started and if you want more variety or heartier fare, you can always order (but costs $). - ladies working the breakfast time slot were always smiling and working hard to replenish the items. Staff: Gosh what an amazing group of people. Housekeepers are thorough and always working hard to make your room clean and tidy (Andrea!!!). Everyone was so kind and always have a hello and smile for you. Just genuinely nice, happy people. We had a wonderful time at The Blue Horizon and understand why so many guests are return ones! And stay longer each visit! See you in a few months 🎉🎉

Just got back from another relaxing vacation at the Blue Horizon Hotel. Like the previous review the restaurant was having a few issues. I believe it has a new management team, so I am sure they had a few kinks to work out. Staff was helpful and friendly throughout the hotel. Room was clean and comfortable. Keep up with the upgrades, Hotel is looking good. Rooms with a small kitchen are a great convenience. The hotel is also central for shopping, restaurants and beach Hoping to return next year. shout out again to great staff that helped make our trip, Amari, Erica, Angela, Dale and Khalil.

I have just returned from a stay with the Blue Horizon. The hotel is under new management and although there were things that could have gone better, they were not too drastic, for example, I had no hot water upon arrival, and the door to my room was actually open when I arrived (late at night), which was quite scary. However, the restaurant was a disaster. Breakfast was included. The first two days I was asked what I wanted for breakfast and given a choice of several cooked items which was a nice surprise as I only expected a continental breakfast. So, on day one I had bacon and egg; the second day I had sausage and scrambled egg. On days three and four there were self serve containers set up with things like mushrooms, beans, and tomatoes, but no protein, so I had mushrooms on toast. Then they switched to a self-serve continental breakfast. It was awful, you had to constantly ask the staff for things like butter, jam, milk etc. They were so slow to deliver, I had dry toast after getting tired of waiting for the butter, and dry cereal as they had ran out of milk. It was depressing me so much that I ate breakfast at Picasso's in the plaza down the road for my last couple of days. On my final evening I ate at the hotel restaurant, which I knew would be a mistake, but was joining new friends. I ordered a Greek salad with grilled anchovies. I specifically asked if the anchovies were fresh, even though it stated 'grilled', I didn't want to assume. The server assured me they were fresh, but I didn't realize that he meant they opened a fresh can of anchovies. The salad was very bland, only one olive or two olives, hardly any feta cheese, and mostly dry greens. After I had finished eating, they came out with a tub of dressing and apologized that the chef forgot the dressing. I was also annoyed to realized that I'd been charged for two glasses of wine, even though the server only topped up my first glass, which was still half full. On the plus side, it is a great location, right across from the beach, and at the end of the beach there is a lovely boardwalk leading to some nice restaurants. Also, it's not too far to walk to St. Lawrence Gap. I was also able to take the local buses from outside the hotel to Bridgetown.
