My told me not to follow my first impression of Canvas when the back entrance was a bamboo gate, and messy off street parking (also used by another property). She was right! We opened the gate and saw lush narrow gardens and lawn with a stone paved path leading us to a small reception area, then another path winding around and going past two villas and really good gardens and more villas. We kept going and the pool came into view and the path led us to the main Reception, where we were greeted enthusiastically by the staff, checked in, and our bags taken to our rooms. The lush gardens were a draw card for my eyes with the variety of plants and colours. Villa Artista inside was BIG and beautifully and very tastefully decorated. I especially loved the tin artwork on the walls, oh, and the really cold air-conditioning, and I was pleased to have an electric run mosquito protection. There was also couch and daybed, side table and a large Samsung TV connected to Netflix that was part of the package. The bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in and the linen was off very high quality. My bathroom was a step down from the main room, having two hand basins, toilet and BIG oval bath, enclosed and with a roof over the top The shower had no roof and it was amazing to stand under a rain head shower and shower in the rain! A first for me! The two managers, Pandu and Pintar were the best. Nothing was a problem for them or their team and it was an absolute pleasure to be there. Meals were cooked in the renovated Combi van near one end of the pool, and it doubled as a bar also. Their meals included both Indonesian and Western options and I particularly liked the fresh mixed fruit bowel in the morning with additional papaya and watermelon, fresh juice and lemongrass tea! I sprained my ankle in Ubud 2 days after we arrived and they regularly came to see how I was and brought me bags of ice. It was touching to feel the sincerity of their care for me. Being about 20 minutes drive from Ubud, it was quiet at the villa from traffic noise, but you will hear the sound of neighbourhood roosters occasionally. In very grateful to Shannen and Andrew for taking me there. Suksima to Pandu and Pintar and their team. Canvas Escapes; you're a real gem!
