My last review of Carillon Miam Beach was in 2016. I have stayed at the Carillon resort over 15 times since 2014. To its credit, the resort has done significant renovations to common areas over the years, most notably to the lobby and restaurants. The spa, fitness area and most of the rooms are very similar to my 2014 observations. Overall, there is still significant value from the Carillon resort. It's location is outstanding and beachfront pristine. All of the rooms are full 1 bedroom suites, and when compared to hotel suites of similar size and location, remain a tremendous value, especially in low season. All hotels/ buildings age over time and the Carillon is no exception. The fitness / wellness footprint is impressive, though it was originally designed as a Canyon Ranch, so to be expected. All fitness and spa areas could use an upgrade, as should be expected in a first class resort. The restaurant still suffers from an identity crisis and seems more focused on getting a Michelin Star than serving well priced meals for guests and residents. Most of the hotel staff are well trained and go out of their way to make an excellent impression of the hotel. They are always responsive and work to make your stay and enjoyable experience. I do have a few concerns in the way the hotel operates these days. The spa accepts Group On certificates to use the spa and pool facilities. The hotel also allows access to the hotel from Resort for a Day members. While I understand the revenue opportunities that come with these admission (and given that the resort is owned by a private equity firm, would expect no less), it does cheapen the experience of not only hotel guests, but residents, as well. Weekends and holidays experience significant overcrowding in the spa facilities and guests that do not follow appropriate etiquette. I've overheard many residents complain about this and that they avoid the spa at times due to this reason. Additionally , hotel and Group on guests are restricted to the main pool and rooftop over fitness facilities. The North Miami Beach area is home to many excellent restaurants and recreation facilities. If you're looking to escape the insanity of South Beach, the Carillon certainly fits the bill. Also, I've noticed many foreign tourist families vacationing at the Carillon over the years, but not as many families from the US. Seems like an ideal spot for a memorable vacation from young to old with plenty of hotel space to spread out.
