HORRIBLE RESORT

We took days to decide on our resort and we chose this resort due to the ratings and the mini comments in regards to the private Beach. We were immediately disappointed upon our arrival. We were talked into upscaling our $3500 for the week visit to $4100 for some very small incentives after understanding what they were trying to sell us we declined and stayed with our what we considered expensive choice. We had planned on having a relaxing evenings and spa days, and just reading books by the pool and getting some R&R. That was impossible to do at this resort due to the horrible food in the three restaurants we tried on the resort. We never once in the 3 days of residing there got to enjoy the sun and pool due to no seating available. Our AC was not working in our room. We were not allowed to sit at a linen table nor order a Tito’s only well liquor was served for this type of band /reservation we had. We were not allowed to take our unfinished cake onto our room, nor were we allowed to have any other options in beer besides one type. The staff you could see felt uncomfortable in telling us that we were not “part of the purple band privilege” group. In the whole resort we only saw a handful of guests wearing the purple wristbands and quite frankly.. No one in that resort looked happy nor comfortable on their stay. No one and I do mean not one staff member spoke English and even us using translation the ability of anyone understanding us was non existent. We drove to a restaurant in Playa Del Carmen had an excellent lunch and decided to rent an AIRBNB and pack up and exit this nightmare.

Mixed Experience – Beautiful Beach, Incredible Staff, but Food Falls Short

We stayed at Catalonia Royal Tulum for seven nights as a couple late 30s and upgraded to the Privileged package for an upgraded all-inclusive experience. First, the positives: the beach is absolutely stunning. Even though there was some seaweed during our stay (which is out of the hotel’s control), it was still a beautiful place to relax. The grounds and facilities are very well maintained, and we especially appreciated how clean everything was—including all of the bathrooms by the pool, which is not always the case at resorts. The constant wildlife sightings make the place! The staff truly made the trip. Everyone was so kind, welcoming, and attentive—it really stood out and made a big difference in our overall experience. The lobby bar was by far the best spot for drinks, with great service and a good atmosphere. As for the entertainment, it’s a smaller resort so don’t expect anything over-the-top, but we still had a great time. The Michael Jackson show was definitely a highlight and something we really enjoyed. Unfortunately, the biggest downside for us was the food. We found it to be lacking in both flavor and quality, particularly when it came to the meats. The sushi was meh and the Italian was very underwhelming. While the Privileged restaurant (BLoved) had a couple of decent dishes, overall we were still disappointed. We often ended up going to the buffet for breakfast because it felt like the most reliable option. Overall, this resort has a lot going for it—especially the beach, cleanliness, and amazing staff—but the food quality would need to improve significantly for us to return.
