Some rooms totally unacceptable

First allocated rooms were a disgrace! In a building away at the back of beyond that we were told isn’t even part of the main complex. Rooms were dark, dingy and smelt musty and damp. Reception member who booked us in lied and said we were near a pool and had a washing machine, with neither true. On returning to refuse these rooms he then hid away in the office and left another staff member to sort. They tried to say no rooms left but I wasn’t having that and eventually got the 3 rooms relocated as they done their best to make sure new guests booking in didn’t hear as they were getting sent to the same block. We had been before so knew better but not good enough. Staff didn’t care and were chancing it by placing guests in inferior accommodation. New rooms were more like we expected but experience left a bad taste

This hotel is just perfect, ideal location 5 mins from the centre. Spotless rooms, fresh bedding and towels every day. We stayed in the self catering building adjacent to the main hotel which had its own pool etc. The main hotel pool and bar are fab with a sea view. Will be back and would recommend.

Spotlessly clean and good sized apartments

Lovely apartments which are kept spotlessly clean. Very good size and equipped with oven and hob, fridge freezer, washing machine and every other kitchen utensil needed. We didn't use the pool area as we prefer the beach. We wouldn't stay anywhere else now. There are quite a few steps down to the Old Town Square but we didn't have a problem and we are aged 66 and 71.

4 star public areas, not sure about the apartment

The public areas, main reception, pool, bar and rating areas were lovely and worthy of the 4 star rating, however I think our apartment had seen better days. Our apartment was spacious, had everything we needed for self catering and was cleaned every day but it was quite shabby with cracked wall tiles, a tatty sofa. The bathroom consisted of a shower over a bath tub with a shower curtain on a tension rod which kept falling down and the extractor fan didn't work resulting in a very hot steamy bathroom. Location high up above the old town square, accessible by approximately 100 steps.

A bit of a climb from the seashore and some walking about inside the grounds. Otherwise a pleasant stay. We had a nice spacious room overlooking the ocean. The buffet breakfast was good and the staff were helpful and polite. They organised a very economical taxi service to the main bus station. Not sure I'd recommend Albufeira as a place but the hotel made it acceptable.
