My husband and I spent 6 nights here in March, and it was hands down the best all inclusive resort experience we've ever had (we've done quite a few throughout the Caribbean and Mexico, but this was our first time in Antigua). The short version: Cocobay Resort = 5 stars, highly recommend, would return!!! Allow me to dig in: Room Ahhhhh-mazing. We stayed in a premium pool suite (specifically Sugar Apple). The views were every bit as beautiful as depicted online. The cottage was actually larger than we expected, and we absolutely loved having the private pool and partial ocean view. I could not get over staring out the window each day or being out on our deck or in the pool. The bed was very comfortable, and the room stayed plenty cool with the a/c. I'd call it bougie-rustic overall. It was super nice, but you're definitely right there in nature. We quickly learned the first night to NOT leave the lamps on in the room while gone to dinner, bc it definitely attracted bugs to the bed's mosquito net that we had to knock off. While I personally loved throwing open the doors that were beside the shower in the bathroom to see the views while showering (the cottage is angled so that you have privacy), I could see that it may not be for everyone, and the shower did feel a bit tighter if you didn't open them. We also found that we had a lizard friend one evening (probably bc of opening the doors while showering), but he didn't bother us and we managed to shoo him out the next morning. We lucked out and had a cottage that wasn't too far from the main area. There are definitely cottages that are more of a walk, but I'd say even if you were in the furthest it wouldn't have been more than a couple of minutes to get to the main buildings/pools, etc. I loved the morning coffee delivery in the little box, and there was something nostalgic about having an old school key instead of an electronic key card. We also loved that they didn't make you wear a wrist band all week. Would the waterfront cottage been nice? Sure. But we had just as an amazing view with our room in my opinion, so I'm glad we didn't spend the more money for that next level. I think I personally would have been disappointed if we didn't do a cottage with a pool - I'm sure they're nice as well, but we really loved being able to spend some time in a pool but away from people each day. Check-In Easiest process we've ever had at an all inclusive. We walked up, gave our name, they handed us cooling towels and rum punch, we took in the view for a minute, and then the bell hop came with our key and helped us to the room and gave us the room tour. It was really nice to be able to just jump right into being on vacation on arrival. We immediately unpacked, got in our room pool, and then showered and went to dinner - we felt like we still got some quality resort time even with our late afternoon arrival and early bedtime after being up since 4am. On your arrival day, you do not have to have a specific dinner time - you can go whenever you like, which was really nice. Food I probably should list this first because oh my goodness was the food sooooooo good! Hands down the best food we've ever had at an all inclusive. We were a little nervous about the one restaurant situation, but it did not disappoint. We had plenty of variety, everything was delicious, it changed each day... they also had a cliffside lunch option (we think we heard that was new) that was like a tepanayki, and we did that twice and LOVED it. We enjoyed the pool paninis and bar bites each day as well - there was some kind of food available pretty much from 7:30am-9:30pm which was more than sufficient. We never went hungry, but we also didn't feel like we overate. Everything seemed really high quality, too. Drinks STRONG. We learned the first night after two drinks that they weren't messing around and watering them down like many all inclusives. We definitely paced ourselves. They had some great cocktails, and you could tell the bartenders really cared about you having a quality drink. We were very pleased with the selections and the quality of drinks. Entertainment We loved that there were no tvs in the rooms. There was one in the main bar, but we never saw it turned on. Everything was so super chill during the day - they had a playlist of music playing that was always at the perfect volume and was a great selection. There was usually live music at night, but it was also laid back (and the singers/musicians were really good!). We sort of loved that it was a quiet resort without a ton going on so that you could just chill and relax the whole time. I could see this being boring for some, but it was perfect for us. Our last night (Friday) was a weekly buffet dinner of caribbean food, and they had a band with steel drums that made things a bit more lively than the other evenings - that was a change of pace and super fun! Service Incredible. It truly felt like the staff would do whatever they could to make you happy. Everyone we interacted with was so friendly, but we specifically remember Jermaine at the restaurant and Vincia at the Sunset Pool Bar being particularly delightful to talk with each day we saw them. We had such a great experience, I believe in large part because the employees are making sure that everything is excellent all the time. Extras We didn't do any of the extras/add-on services. We thought we might, but we enjoyed all the included amenities so much that we didn't feel like we needed anything extra. I did hear someone else say they had a massage and it was amazing. We also didn't do any excursions because we wanted to relax on this trip, and we were plenty happy staying at the resort the whole time. We did hear others say they were able to easily book things through the front desk. Beach It was beautiful and the water was nice to swim in. There were a few vendors, but it seemed like maybe the 2 we saw each day were allowed by the resort to be there because we only saw those 2. They weren't pushy, and we did end up doing some shopping. Meal reservations You make you reservation for lunch and dinner times each morning at breakfast. Pro-tip: go to breakfast early to get your desired time. We weren't picky, but this might matter to some. Privacy We definitely felt like we had it with our room. We only heard other people if they walked by on the path, and while we could see one other cottage's deck from ours and vice versa, we never seemed to be out there at the same time. All in all, we had such an amazing vacation here. I've come home and told all my friends this needs to be where they go the next time they need a couple's getaway!
