My children and I recently travelled with friends to Corfu Holiday Palace. On the whole I think we were very lucky as everything was clean, in good working order and of a high standard for the price we paid. I thought the rooms were a good standard with a powerful hot shower. Our beds were comfortable. The staff are so nice and accommodating. The food was varied and you could eat healthily if you wanted. Points to note would be, some might consider the decor dated (I liked the James Bond feel). Close to the airport (again didn’t bother me but I think our week wasn’t peak season in terms of the numbers of planes on the runway). There isn’t a huge amount to do in the surrounding area so don’t expect an exciting day trip everyday!! The pool isn’t heated but again it wasn’t a problem for us although the kids probably weren’t it in as long as we hoped or expected. But they had fun! All in all for the price we paid I can’t complain. X

Really enjoyable experience

Had 4 nights at Corfu Holiday Palace. This hotel has everything you need, but you do need to look past some bits to really enjoy it. Having read the last 3 reviews from people there the same time as us, they are not wrong in what they say but we had a much better experience luckily. Pros: The rooms are spacious, clean, and have everything you need in them. The food is tasty, varied every day (even desserts), and well cooked. Good selection of drinks and bar food which we found to be reasonably priced. Shop over the road if you want to buy snacks/drinks/postcards. Shop in the basement of the hotel, which also sold drinks/snacks/swimming costumes/swimming toys and souvenirs. Friendly and helpful staff in all areas of the hotel. Working funicular which the kids enjoyed. The outdoor saltwater pool was cold but actually refreshing once in it. Indoor pool is good for kids to have a muck about in. Towels supplied by the spa for around the pool and at the beach. (Really useful on the last day to shower before home). Good showers in basement toilet, which we used on our last day and meant we didn't need to pay extra for a room to use, allowing us to make the most of our last day. Really nice sun loungers with little pillows attached. Bus stop 2A right outside hotel which take you into Corfu town. Beach, which on our last day was beginning to be set up for summer. (Posts going in for shade umbrellas and piles of sand had been dispersed, see previous reviews). Quirky history and decor which we enjoyed. Cons: The air conditioning didn't work on cool only heat. This was the same in all our rooms (3 rooms) we assumed it was not warm enough for them to switch it on yet. The hotel is a bit tired looking especially around the indoor pool and in the standard rooms. But this didnt stop us enjoying it. You can hear the planes landing and taking off. This didn't bother us and we found it fun to watch them but there will be more as the airport gets busier in the summer so if noise is a problem for you consider this! There were 2 large groups of students staying who behaved poorly. 1 group at the beginning of the week and 1 at the end. The hotel fed them in the ballroom rather than the restaurant, so it wasn't a problem. At mealtimes. I would be surprised if the hotel allowed the big groups of students in the height of summer!

Disappointing stay due to noise !

It’s hard , I know to have the perfect holiday, I had requested a quiet room and I got a room on 5th floor over looking the lake and runway. I liked the room , very spacious, the shower over the bath did not work well for me as the shower head pointed at the end wall and not on me,so I took it off and held it as a hand shower, I think for a 5 star hotel, the bathroom could be better , especially the toilet which flushed continuously 3 times whilst I was there for just 4 nights, ( reported and ‘fixed’ each time.) The staff were really good in all areas of the hotel , my room was cleaned daily. In the room there is a safe, kettle, fridge, easy chairs, large balcony and TV. What was missing was any instructions on how to use the TV or the rest of the hotel , I never saw the gym ! This lack of information may have been due to the hotel re opening on 1st April. I started my stay on 1st, there were a handful of guests and I arrived late, a supper was left in my room, 2 small bottles of water were in the fridge. The next day a very large school party arrived, they were noisy at night , and during the day they shouted across the balconies, the blend of 5star guests and teenagers did not mix well, I think the hotel needs to think about just having teenagers or guest on holiday as this mix did not work and upset a guests who like me had come to this hotel for a quiet well earned holiday. There was also the problem for me of planes taking off late at night, Corfu is a small airport , a delight to travel through, I expected planes to land and take off during the day , but at past midnight , I found this too much as it woke up anyone lucky enough to be asleep. The food at this hotel was very nice, breakfast was buffet style, but lacked the fresh cook eggs which I like. There were boiled , scrambled and rolled up omelettes on the buffet. In the evening we had a lovely buffet , but no fresh cooked grilled meats or fish. This hotel is on a good bus route to Corfu town, 3 buses a hour , takes about 20 minutes, I liked travelling on the bus, there is also an open top tour bus service next to the bus stop outside the hotel. The local bus drops you in Corfu town and you can get the bus back from the same spot, it travels a circular route. There was no coffee available at dinner, we had to get up and go into the bar for coffee. Wine, beers and water were available at our table.(payable) The bar area was nice, there was no evening entertainment and the hotel did not have any information about excursions, I was told it was ‘too early’. I was disappointed with the level of noise in this hotel and lack of information about hotel facilities. I was happy with the pool area , which had bar service , good support from staff with anything in that area and access to the beach by lift, the beach bar and beach sun-beds were not in use, which was disappointing. Piles of sand was put on the beach on 1st and stayed in a pile until I left on 5th, it would have been nicer if the beach area could have been made ready for guests. I very much liked Corfu and its people, very warm and welcoming, I will return to Corfu , but stay in a different place.

What a shame

Unfortunately this was one holiday we could not wait to get home from, no hot water for 3 days, with a 18month old was fun. Zero entertainment even though the app said it was on. When we asked we were told the music you can hear is the entertainment. Well don’t advertise it if it hasn’t started then. The app literally explains what is on every night. Lies! The food was less to be desired and very expensive for the lunch menu for what you get: even the indoor pool was freezing. I totally understand it is the beginning of the season however the lack of amenities needs to be explained at booking, we have been left totally disappointed.. however the school trips of hundreds of teenagers running wild at 4am and throwing pizza onto our balcony looked like they had a fabulous time.

Would never stay here again even if it was for free

We our On our last night as this hotel, to be honest never looked so forward to going home, we even looked at early flights home after only 3 days of staying here. We arrived on Friday the 4th April with an 18month old. First night was horrific kept awake until 4am from school kids running riot in the rooms above us. Complained to reception and asked for a room change. No room change and was told security will be on the 6th floor so we shouldn’t hear from the kids. Saturday night exactly the same again. Doors been slammed shut at gone midnight kids running up and down the corridors was horrendous. Having school trips stay in a 5 star hotel when people have paid good money to stay here is absurd. We had hot water on the Friday then no hot water for 2 days which resulted in us spending a night away from the hotel so we could actually bath our baby without him having a cold bath. We’ve had no air con in the rooms just blows hot air, the hotel app states there is entertainment every night and what’s on, there is literally no entertainment whatsoever, the only entertainment is our son high fiving people in the bar. We are on our last night now and again more bus loads of kids have arrived and the noise is already ridiculous. For a 5 star hotel this is by far the worst I’ve ever stayed in, nothing to do through the day the indoor pool was freezing and the food was poor. Waiting fifteen minutes for fresh food to be brought out each night. First time staying in Corfu and I doubt I would return again. If I did I would definetly never stay in this hotel again. It’s not even worth a 1 star review. Only bonus were the waiters and bar staff were very polite and friendly.
