We have just come back after staying 10 nights at the Dalyan resort/Live Spa, in Dalyan, Ortaca, Turkey. I guess in summary this Hotel does what Dalyan does best, it’s super chilled relaxed quiet, and I must admit we have had a wonderful holiday staying at this hotel. We’ve been going to Dalyan for nearly 20 years But we always stayed the other end of town at a small family run hotel. Sadly due to Covid, they sold up and moved back to Istanbul so we had to chance staying at another hotel having loved our previous one so much. I’m really pleased to say that we were really delighted with our choice, staying at the Dalyan resort. Check-in was super quick and easy and we were shown to our room by the wonderful Ali - who is mentioned so many times in other reviews… The rooms are really nice. I would say that they are quite compact and bijou. There is not much room in them but they are functional. I guess if you’re organised and tidy it works fine. Super walk-in shower with a separate toilet and a wash hand basin in the middle. The beds are super comfy and the bed linen is beautiful. I must also mention the air conditioning in the room. The air-conditioning machine is brilliant. It’s very efficient and during the night if you want to put the fan on low, you can hardly hear it and it keeps the room lovely and cool. It was 33- 36 degrees° while we’re out here in June And boy you need good air conditioning. One word of caution, if you happen to have a ground floor room with a terrace, and you get someone staying in a room above you, you will hear a bit of noise. We didn’t have anyone for the first three days and then we had somebody move in above us and we did notice a difference… no problems sleeping during the night though - most folk were really considerate of the other guests which is something I really love and appreciate…. Breakfasts are amazing!! I loved breakfasts.… There is such a range, and although it is open 8 to 10, they don’t mind you coming a little early and grabbing a coffee. There are inside tables but loads of tables outside round the pool and down by the river. Watch for the mosquitoes though! There is an omelette fried egg station outside then you have a cereal bar with lots of yoghurt, et cetera then you have the usual cheese, cold meat salad tomatoes cucumbers et cetera Then you have a hot plate which has some pastries and some savoury pastries and then you have a big selection of bread and a toast machine. There’s also two fabulous coffee machines which makes great coffee and your usual Turkish tea and English tea. So between all that there really is a massive selection. It’s a buffet style breakfast and the staff are very attentive literally as soon as you put a plate down, it’s whipped away. The bar is beside the non-spa section. We were staying in the spa section. That confused me a little bit why it’s called two different hotel names but really in fact it is just one hotel with two pools. We were on a ground floor room with our own little terrace with a table and chairs and it was literally 10 paces to our lounger. It was brilliant because we could leave things on our table in the shade or even in the room And my Bluetooth headphones worked with my phone in the room. The Wi-Fi is actually really good although we were told when we first arrived by another couple that the Wi-Fi was very poor so I didn’t actually try it until day three when I was very pleasantly surprised to get download speeds of over 100 and an upload speed of 60. Saying that it can be a little bit patchy depending on where you are, but the Wi-Fi is absolutely fine. The hotel does food right through the day into the evening and stops serving food at 10. It does a huge selection of foods. Sandwiches Toasties salads, fries, burgers et cetera. There’s a QR code on the bar and if you scan it, it gives you a full list of all food and drink. Price wise for food and drink, I think the hotel could be described as reasonable … probably more like prices back home.. they have big signs up on the main door coming into the hotel asking customers not to bring in any food or drink from outside - which I can understand… Saying that, I do think the Hotel slightly overcharges for water. For a 1.5 L bottle of water you are paying 70 Turkish lira which is £1.30. In the shops you can buy this for 20 Turkish lira. I appreciate there is a markup and the water is chilled, et cetera but I think charging a premium on water is not brilliant.. You are 200 Turkish lira for a tin of Efes beer.. and here is a link to the full bar/food menu Which is now pretty standard on the main drag…. https://dalyanresort.bisiparis.com/en/Dalyan-Resort-Spa-Otels/YIYECEKLERFOOD We ate in the hotel twice and found the food to be really good quality and reasonably priced. We sat at a table around the pool in the evening. The mozzies were out but the staff were doing all they could with smoke machines and sprays to keep them at bay…. Housekeeping is very good. They are literally in and out in about 10 minutes but do a good job. They work in either twos or threes so they’re very efficient in getting in and out rooms. I found all the staff to be really friendly and helpful. We had a Turkish bath and massage in the spa at the hotel. I guess there are other ones available in Dalyan but we went with the hotel just because it was handy. All good. If there was any negative to say about the hotel, it would probably be that it is a little bit out of the main drag. To walk from the hotel to for example chef steakhouse is 1.1 mile. So if you’re doing that in and back it can be quite a trek! . So if your mobility is not great do take that in mind. The big thing now is everyone’s got these double electric buggies which whiz about… not sure what I feel about them …. Everyone was using them…. You’ve also got to factor in the temperature. Walking from the hotel down the town when it’s still 32° at 6 o’clock at night doesn’t make for you arriving at the restaurant in a nice condition. After three or four days we decided to walk into town and then get a taxi back. A taxi from the taxi rank by the post office on the main drag is 200 L. So just under £4. The other option is to take the taxi into town and avoid walking in the heat and then walk home later when it’s cooler.. either way was a win for us!!! After a few days, we actually ended up getting a taxi into town and a taxi home. So we ranked up quite a taxi bill for the week, but actually we feel it was well worth it. Some of the restaurants, for example Chinatown, will pick you up and even take you home as well. I’m not sure which other ones do, but I’m sure if you ask her and you’ll be able to find out. Saying that … the location is also a positive. We walk out of our room and turn left and see the mountain at Kaunos literally before us. The hotel is situated right by the river and has the most beautiful gardens. The gardens are lush and almost wild but in a beautiful way. There are also lots of little nooks and crannies with hidden sun loungers et cetera. I would just say be careful for the mosquitoes because we got eaten alive…. Even during the day going down there to explore. As it is a good seven years since we have been to Dalyan, we did see a lot of changes. I guess the first one is that Dalyan has become very expensive. Yes, you can eat out cheaply going for a kebab or a pizza but the restaurants where we used to eat in for example bistro blue, chefs steakhouse etc… for two starters two main courses and even two beers you’re looking at the best part of £70 to £80. And that’s without wine… So we definitely have seen an increase in prices in Dalyan. I guess that’s to do with the cost-of-living crisis here and the crash of the currency. The last time we came to Turkey you were getting 8 L to the pound it’s now nearly 54 L to the pound. If we were to come back to Dalyan, I would definitely consider staying here again, absolutely for sure. If you want a place that’s pretty chilled out… very quiet… very few children and everybody is quite respectful of each other then I think you don’t have to look much further than the Dalyan resort. If you want somewhere that’s pretty lively then I would look elsewhere. There’s no music playing at the pool Everybody is either reading book or listening to music on their headphones. I would also say that the clientele is definitely slightly older, but there are a few young couples here, as well as a few same sex couples.. which is nice to see in Turkey. Thank you to all the staff who made our holiday so brilliant, especially Ali who manages the pools and takes you to your room with your luggage etc…. He’s a real star!!
