Disappointing Spring break at Desiterra

This is not a 5 Star hotel as claimed on every aspect of their marketing. I chose to stay at Desiterra because it had a large outdoor swimming pool promoted on the hotel’s website. On my first day I was asked not to use the pool because workmen were fixing a roof adjacent to the pool. Isn’t this the sort of thing that a hotel does in the winter? I received clarification from staff that work was complete and that I could swim on my second day. When I arrived at the pool the carpenters were still there and so “no swimming” again. I might try again tomorrow but they’ll probably tell me there are piranhas! When I stay at a hotel I am not a fussy person. In fact I have never made an online comment about any hotel. However, I think that it’s fair to expect two things from the staff - honesty and basic competence. Why didn’t they say the pool was closed much of the time? I would happily have stayed somewhere else for less money. The response that I got from staff was sullen and defensive. They clearly don’t like criticism and the place seems understaffed. I’d describe the other aspects of the hotel (food, room, location) as adequate but not 5*. Give it a miss especially in May/June when they are getting ready for the peak summer season.

Family holiday in Santorini for our sons wedding

We stayed at the beautiful Desiterra Resort & Spa from 8th May to 16th May for my sons wedding. The location is perfect, being centrally located with a short journey to all corners of the island. Highly recommend car hire as this is very reasonable and works out cheaper than taxi and transfers. Our villa was absolutely incredible. It was spacious and cleaned every day by a fantastic housekeeping team. Mike on reception made our stay even more special. He was so kind, always happy, and extremely helpful. All of the staff couldn't do more for us. Breakfast was delicious, and we served each morning by a wonderful gentleman and his lovely wife. All of the staff were fantastic and definitely made our special holiday more than we could have dreamed. I would highly recommend staying at Desiterra Resort & Spa it was an amazing experience. My family and I would definitely go back without hesitation.

On arrival the welcome was very friendly and helpful All members of the Desiterra team spoke English,which was great as I worried about not having any Greek. The villa was well equipped and comfortable. The pool was very clean. The restaurant was brilliant wonderful service great food.

Hotel asks for physical credit card and passports as deposit and unhygienic and unsafe for children

Our experience at Desiterra Hotel & Resort was thoroughly disappointing and fell far short of what one would expect from a five-star resort. Upon arrival, the lobby was small, unhygienic, and infested with flies. The restaurant had a cheap appearance and lacked any atmosphere. The villa was dirty, plagued by ants and flies, and completely unsafe for young children due to unsecured staircases. The toilets were poorly maintained and of low quality. The swimming pool was much smaller than depicted in the photos, and the promised “sea view” was barely visible in the distance. The staff was unprofessional and failed to respond adequately to complaints. Parking at the villa was impractical, and the request for passports and physical credit cards as a deposit felt unsafe. I do not recommend this accommodation for families or for travelers seeking genuine luxury and service.
