We have visited the Maldives before with Athruga being our fourth island. The relaxing, laid back informal vibe was just what we were looking for and it was wonderful to experience. The 'no shoes, no news' experience was perfect for us. Our beach bungalow (number 2) was perfect for us and the food supplied was by far the best we've experience in the Maldives before. The conservation efforts did not go unnoticed and we could clearly see the recovery of the coral in the stunning reef and understand that the smaller sections of beach have not had more sand pumped in, in order to protect the beautiful reef. The commitment, care and attention provided by staff felt genuine and that people were interested in us and our stay. A thank you to Saalim for looking after our bungalow so well, including a special display for my birthday. A special thanks must go to Francesco, Miriam and Guilia at the watersports who indulged us twice a day snorkelling, did a whale shark trip (we got third time lucky!) and always gave us time when we popped by to chat. The passion they have for the reef and it's residents is clear and their enthusiasm was not lost on us. Go and enjoy this gorgeous island, embrace all that it offers and you will have a fabulous time.
