We’ve just returned from Diamond Athuruga and we truly cannot stop thinking about it. It’s one of those places that stays with you. We’re already talking about when — not if — we’ll go back. We traveled as a family with our two daughters (13 and 11), and it was just as magical for them as it was for us. They met other children their age, laughed endlessly, and even took part in a marine biology workshop where they made “reef cookies” to help protect the reef and speed up coral restoration. Seeing their own creations later placed in the housereef was such a meaningful and educational experience for them. We stayed in an overwater villa, and it exceeded our expectations. It was much more spacious than we imagined and very comfortable for the four of us. The deck is also bigger than it appears in pictures, which made such a difference. Simply standing there, at any time of the day, we saw a myriad of marine life: rays, blacktip sharks, nurse sharks, even turtles gracefully swimming by. It felt like living inside a nature documentary. Snorkeling directly from our villa and being surrounded by that vibrant underwater world is something we will never forget. The island itself is pure beauty — lush, natural, perfectly maintained, yet never artificial. The house reef is absolutely marvelous and just a few steps from the shore, making it incredibly easy to immerse yourself in that stunning underwater world whenever you feel like it. There is such a harmonious balance between untouched nature and refined ecoluxury. Everything feels thoughtful, respectful of the environment, and effortlessly elegant without ever being over the top. The atmosphere is another thing we loved: never crowded, soft and tasteful animation, yet full of life. There were so many moments of laughter and wonderful social connections, while still feeling peaceful and relaxed. But what truly made our stay exceptional were the people. A heartfelt thank you to Julia, who welcomed us with her warm smile and professionalism from the very first second. She greeted us as soon as we stepped off the seaplane, making us feel instantly at home. What impressed us even more was that she accompanied us back to the seaplane on our departure day, giving us her full attention until the very last moment. That level of care says everything. Rauf is simply a force of nature. Diamond Athuruga is truly fortunate to have him. Water gym with him was energetic, fun, and impossible to miss — no one wanted to skip it! In the evenings, he transformed the night entertainment into something cosy, familiar, and genuinely fun. A true showman who makes a difference in everything he organizes. A very special thank you to Rasheed, who took care of us at every meal. He is one of the sweetest, most caring and attentive people we’ve met. Always present, always thoughtful, always smiling — he made every dining experience feel personal and special. And of course, thank you to Titu — the grill star! Every meal was a highlight. Diamond Athuruga is not just beautiful — it has soul. And that is why we already miss it so much. We cannot wait to come back.
