DoubleTree by Hilton La Torre Golf & Spa Resort

The complex looks impressive from a distance, up close the exterior needs to be maintained. The interior however is well maintained. The location is great if you are there for golf, if not very little else nearby. Even the shops and restaurants in the complex- or lack thereof was disappointing, Most of the non-hotel property seemed vacant, there were a few restaurants open but nothing that was pleasing. The local supermarket was minimal and high priced. The pool area was nice however even the pool needed some tile maintenance. We tried the indoor pool which was nice and warm but neither the sauna nor steam room were working. We had an "upgraded" superior room which was okay but short on electrical outlets near the beds and no USB outlets. We had a small balcony, but it was so small there was only one chair and a small table. The breakfast buffet was okay but nothing special.

Quiet, spacious, clean hotel with good facilities, lovely breakfast and room was ok( superior king) a bit tired in appearance though and balcony nice but needs painting. Lovely restaurants beside the hotel to go too. Good value for money To be a 5* hotel it needs water bottles to be replaced daily, a coffee machine( kettle only), milk, hand soap in the bathroom and pillow protectors on pillows. I am an ex travel agent so my views are pretty thorough so I apologise for the lengthy thread. Prior to travelling I had email confirmation of interconnecting rooms, when I phoned up to check on swimming times I was told that this may not be possible.. this was a necessity as we were a family of 5 and my husband was working, leaving at 6am every morning, one night 1am so children would be left alone in a room. We booked a non refundable booking so had no choice but to go.. On arrival I was given non interconnecting rooms as apparently the people staying for 1/2 nights over Valentine’s Day got priority over our 9 night stay! My children are ages 9,6 and 3 and 2 children have learning difficulties (Autism/ADHD/ Global developmental delay). I asked but was told it would not be possible until 4 days in to our stay.. We made do, the rooms were spacious and seemed clean enough. Our rooms were back to back so you had to walk up and around the corridor to gain access and we decided our 9 year old would be the safest option being alone so persevered. We were also on the top floor so it was quite a risk to leave the other young children unattended. The rooms were so so hot, we slept with the doors on the balcony open all day and night and other friends staying in the hotel said the same, being on the top floor was the only bonus of being able to do this. We did love the bath! I was looking forward to a coffee machine in the room but there wasn’t as stated, just a kettle with cheap tea and coffee. Another let down was the hairdryer being one you have to keep your finger pressed down to work (nightmare when you have long hair to dry and 2 children with long hair!). Now this is where our stay took a turn for the worse… We had friends staying on the resort and they paid to use the swimming pool €20 per head and they had 2 young children. So they paid reception €100 in cash (the security guard witnessed this as was stood, he also witnessed that he had a significant amount of cash in his pocket €800 in total). They went to use the pool and locked their clothes in the lockers provided by the Hilton… upon their return their locker had been unlocked with another key and their shorts had been stolen which had the €800 and hire car keys inside.. our friend had to walk to reception in a towel where he noticed another family complaining their locker in the female changing room had also been broken in to.. they phoned us and we went to reception to help and when I questioned CCTV the staff automatically said the camera didn’t work and couldn’t speak much English! There was a cctv camera at the bottom of the stairs as you enter the changing rooms.. the security guard was really edgy and refused to help. The hotel manager said there was nothing they could do apart from go to the police station and report it which we assisted our friends on going. Immediately after this incident my children were shaken and petrified to be left alone in their hotel room.. my friend flew out and decided to book a separate apartment away from the hotel and she looked after the 2 oldest children as they did not feel safe in the hotel after this. We also removed all of our valuables as we realised this was not a safe hotel.. it even states on the safe in the room “the hotel accept no liability for items left in the safe” which is NOT acceptable for a 5 star hotel! The pool area was also dirty and not clean at all! There was one staff member on reception that was friendly, sadly he was not in on the day of the incident. But we felt the trust was broken after the incident. We return every year with around 60 guests and this is the first time we have stayed and recommended the hotel. We can say we will NEVER return to this hotel as it’s unsafe!

Took the family swimming in the indoor pool and had our locker broken into. They took cash and the key to our hire car. Security being very shady kept changing there story’s about the cctv. I’m 99%. Sure it was an inside job. Another guest also had there locker done at the same time
