Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana

Just spent a week at Dreams Macao in Punta Cana. My wife and I took our daughter and we are very impressed! Our daughter already wants to plan another trip. The food was great and the Presidente Beers never stop flowing! The taco truck and hibachi were our favorites! Staff was amazing! Indira at check in made the process seamless and our butler “Fast Eddie” made sure that our reservations and restocks were right on time. Shout out to the preferred pool staff as well. Both Moises were fantastic with poolside service and drinks! Sandy at the food truck was fast and helpful with our food orders. We all loved the lazy river and the beautiful beach. I was really impressed by the layout of the facility and the ease of getting where you wanted to be. My wife loved the nightly shows. We hated to leave but we can’t wait to come back!

We just got back from a week at Dreams Macao and honestly it exceeded every expectation. This resort has so much going for it and we are already talking about coming back. First, the staff here are on another level. Indira at check-in was wonderful and helped us get set up with the Preferred Club upgrade which made such a difference. Our butler Eddie (we called him Fast Eddie because he was always one step ahead!) made us feel so taken care of the entire trip. The two Moises at the adult pool were fantastic, always keeping the vibes going. And Sandy at the taco truck by the lazy river deserves his own shoutout because that taco truck was one of our favorite spots the whole week! Speaking of food, the breakfast omelettes were great, the taco truck was a daily stop, and the dinner restaurants were all delicious. The hibachi was our absolute favorite and we ended up going three times! The entertainment crew kept the energy going all week long. Victor and Baby Face were incredible, always bringing the fun and making everyone feel welcome. The magic show, beach party, and circus were my standout nights, but there was also lobby music and karaoke so there was never a dull moment. The resort itself is beautiful and really easy to get around. The gym was well equipped and the beach was pristine with the softest sand. We saw multiple weddings during our stay and it was easy to see why couples choose this place. If you are on the fence, just go. Dreams Macao delivers on everything.

From our arrival at this beautiful resort to departure, the experience exceeded my high expectations. The Preferred Club (PC) upgrade was definitely a big plus for us. It gave our family and friends a great meetup place that was personal with added privacy. Loved my PC Junior suite, with so many in-room amenities, spectacular views, gracious housekeeper, and quick responses to special requests. There was an upbeat, trendy vibe that the staff exceeded at, everywhere on the property. It’s very helpful to read the reviews to garner tips. While I knew not to drink the water, I forgot when I filled the in-room expresso maker, and I had slight gastro discomfort. Reviews on restaurants were most helpful, and we found the food to be abundantly available and delicious. We were a mid-size wedding party, and every detail was exceptionally handled as well as proactively anticipated (Grace…on-site wedding planner).

Amazing resort to stay at. The staff at the resort ( Kenny, Mary Christmas, Pappy Chicken and Pictor) make the place really special to visit.

I visited Dreams Macao Beach with my wife and our 8-yo son for 5 days this past week. We generally go on one AI trip per year and have visited other family resorts including Finest, Iberostar, and Grand Velas. I was excited to try Dreams since it is such a well-known family brand. This was also our first visit to the DR. Overall, our trip was fine. We had a nice time but I probably wouldn't go back. We may return to the DR, but I would look for somewhere a little more family-oriented. Property: This is a real strength of Dreams Macao. The beach here is amazing. Beautiful cliffs off to the right, azure water, no sargassum, waves just big enough to do some boogie boarding / surfing. Yes it is too rough for little kids, but that wasn't a big deal for us. I also like the size of the resort. Just big enough to have stuff to do but small enough that you can walk across it without getting soaked in sweat or needing a cart (looking at you, Iberostar...). Room: Totally fine. We had a preferred club ocean view king suite. A little on the small side for us but would be perfect for a couple. They set up a rolling bed for our son (there is no pull-out). They do the weird AI thing where the toilet stall doesn't have a door that closes all the way. The AC works okay but it resets if you leave the room for a while. This means it would take a while to cool the room back down when coming back from dinner/evening activities. Service: This is another strength. The staff here were generally super friendly. We had warm, attentive service at almost every meal. For example, my son dropped his burger at Barefoot Grill one day and the attendant swooped in to clean it up and bring him a new one within seconds (wish I had gotten his name). I tipped frequently but didn't feel like people were rude about it / expected it. Drink service is offered throughout the resort, which is nice. The only place where the service felt noticeably inattentive was at the buffet. Kids Club: A large part of the reason we go to AI's is so our son can enjoy activities with other kids in the kids club while we get some relaxation time on the beach. On the upside, the staff at the club were great. Moana and Rainbow were super friendly with my son and welcomed him every time they saw him. The downside is that there just weren't many kids using the club so it felt a little dead. We received a list of kids club activities each day but it seemed like kind of a toss-up whether those activities actually happened. Again, I don't think this is on the staff. Maybe we just caught a slow week kid-wise. But it was a disappointment. At Iberostar we could barely peel our kid out of the kids club, but here he stopped asking to go after the second day. Vibe: Look, people go to AI's to party. I get it. Plus, it was a holiday weekend in May so there were several weddings and graduation trips. All that being said, guests here are a little sloppy. The main pool was nice during the morning, but by the afternoon there were a lot of shots and shot-gunning beers along with people loudly cursing and talking about sex. There's a family pool that is more chill, but still, be aware of what you're getting into. It feels like this place veers more towards party resort than family resort. Preferred Club: We got preferred club and I strongly recommend it. Without this, it would feel like a lot of the resort is off limits. We loved having quiet breakfasts at Oceana in the morning. The preferred lounge was a nice place to stop and have a drink and a snack. The preferred section on the beach was quieter and had better service (shout out to Willy Wonka, that man is good at his job). Also, having our room in the building closest to the beach / main pool made things way easier. The butler thing was kind of a wash, but your mileage may vary. Food: I was kind of dreading this after seeing so many reviews about how bad food is in the DR, but it was pretty much exactly what I would expect from a mid-tier AI. Not great, not terrible...totally serviceable. The buffet is a bit small but we didn't go there much. The French restaurant is legit pretty good. The Italian place is pretty bad. For lunch, check out the grilled chicken by Barefoot or the taco truck at the water park. The lattes from the coffee shop were surprisingly good, too. Other random things worth noting: 1) The towel game is a thing here. They have signs all over the place saying you can't save loungers but no one enforces it. I don't blame the staff - that's on management. If you create a policy and don't enforce it, you're just telling your workers that they can ignore other policies too. Fortunately the preferred club areas had ample space. 2) The lazy river / water park area is really nice. It's generally more chill compared to the rest of the resort. There are lots of quiet nooks by the river with loungers, and the staff back there do a great job. Plus there are kitties. 3) Having the evening shows at 9pm is kind of a wild choice for a family resort. We didn't make it to a single one because our son would be too tired by then. 4) I took a surf lesson with Punta Cana Surf Adventure and it was a lot of fun. You can also check out surf boards or boogie boards for 30 minutes for free from a shack by the preferred club beach area.
