El Convento

El convento provides a convenient base for exploring Old San Juan for a night or two. The common area of this hotel are really lovely. The evening wine and cheese and morning coffee were a real bonus and we enjoyed them greatly. The room and decor did not match the historic and beautiful common spaces and the bathroom was very tight. There were weddings both nights we were there and it could get a little noisy and the restaurant in the courtyard closed early as a result (without prior notice). I wanted to love this a little more, but would still recommend to friends and family.

This hotel is absolutely stunning—with its rich history, beautiful architecture, and lush plant life, it's a visual delight. However, it was the incredible staff who truly made this the best vacation ever. At the restaurant, Edgard stood out with his warm personality and entertaining stories—like the grackles stealing Splenda from tables and the resident cat, Trixie. George went above and beyond simply handling our bags; he gave us good advice and recommendations, including introducing us to Kenneth, who became our trusted driver. Kenneth not only transported us to the beach and airport but also took us on a heartfelt adventure to Barceloneta, where we searched for the farm where my grandmother grew up—though it may no longer exist. This was more than just a hotel stay; it was an experience filled with kindness, charm, and unforgettable memories.

An absolute winner. If you can swing it, this is the unbeatable place to stay in San Juan. A converted convent, with high ceilings, tiled paths and cloister, central courtyard with a massive tree and tables and food and drinks... and Atmosphere. We stayed in a lovely courtyard ground floor room. Double doors masked even a whisper of a boisterous wedding at another part, with a covered little private outdoor 'patio-ette.' A small plumbing problem could not addressed so they simply moved us to a different room that night. 'Don't worry..I have something special', said JA at the desk. No kidding. A magisterial suite. (The wi fi was weak, so they set up a standalone network in the room. Everything was to simply make everything 'best.' The hotel is about charm and smiles and kind folks at the desk, and hospitality, and a super location in SJ, near the cathedral and walking anywhere. Stay here.

Usually your hotel room is just where you sleep. Here you are sleeping in history! The hotel is not only stunning but it is right in the middle of everything. You can relax, stroll, shop,eat and walk a few steps to your bed. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The money you save in Ubers totally covers the few dollars more a night this hotel is than others around.

Enjoyed a tremendous experience at this first-rate establishment! We particularly loved associates Jeancarlo, Mara and Carla. They were amazingly helpful and friendly to us throughout our stay! Would choose the El Convento again next time.
