Just returned from our first 7-night/8-day trip to Excellence Playa Mujeres (EPM) — here’s our honest review! Arrival & Transportation: We landed Friday 6/13. Customs was quick, baggage took a bit, and finding Seasons Transportation was slightly chaotic due to overly eager excursion vendors. Just head straight to the platform area and ignore the sales pitches. Seasons was great — our driver Miguel was professional, polite, and had us on the road in no time. Driving in Mexico is wild — glad we didn’t rent a car! Check-In: The resort is stunning, despite front construction. We were warmly greeted with champagne and quickly taken to Excellence Club check-in. Our trainee concierge was a bit unsure, and we didn’t get the requested room, but overall check-in was smooth. Room: We upgraded to the Excellence Club 2-Story Rooftop Suite with Plunge Pool Ocean Front — though it wasn’t truly oceanfront (Room 7418). The view was more resort than sea, which was disappointing, but the privacy and rooftop plunge pool made up for it. The room was clean, well-stocked, and our bar attendant, Alexis David, was awesome. Heads up: the bathroom lacks privacy, which mattered more when we both got sick on day two. Excellence Club Perks: We’d choose EC again — the beach area was peaceful with easy chair access, the hydrotherapy session was fantastic, and Magna was a great dining experience. Cesar at the EC concierge was wonderful. The upgraded bar access alone is worth it if you’re feeling well enough to enjoy it. Room Service & Food: Room service was hit or miss — no standing orders at first, then we got them, then canceled for flexibility. Portions are generous! We loved The Kitchen Table for breakfast, Lobster House for lunch (best service from Antonio!), and The Grill and Romantic Beach Dinner were our top dinners. My husband loved Basmati. Allergy service was excellent. Tipping: Tips are included, but we still tipped around $20/day — a few dollars here and there. It was appreciated but not expected. Spa tip was $10. Illness: We both got sick by day 2 — likely from using tap water to brush teeth. We switched to bottled water late in the trip, but the damage was done. Still recovering at home. Lesson learned: use bottled water for everything. Pack meds! Gift shop prices are steep ($20–$25 per item). Entertainment & Extras: The entertainment was top-notch. The magician, Fernando Meir, was incredible. The app needs work — reminders don’t function, and show locations change without notice. Ordering room service via the app would be a great addition. Departure: Checkout was smooth. Our final concierge, Grecia, noticed some earlier confusion and offered us a free room upgrade for next time — we didn’t ask, but appreciated the gesture. Final Thoughts: Despite getting sick, we had an amazing time. The staff, service, and vibe made EPM feel like our new home away from home. We’re already looking forward to returning — hopefully healthy next time!
