This was our third stay at SFF, but the first time since the new management team took over from Fairmont. This was a special family occasion, and it was arranged smoothly and efficiently through SeyExclusive. We went with our two daughters, their husbands and grandchildren aged 5 and 7. We had a wonderful holiday, and the new management has taken the resort up another level. The best things from our perspective were: Accommodation: is spacious, clean and well appointed. Every villa is equipped with comfortable beds and pillows, amazing bathrooms, good sized plunge pools, sun loungers with an umbrella, and other outside shaded seating. Beach villas have mature gardens and access onto the beach; water villas have direct access to the sea. Food and Restaurants: the food is generally excellent. The main restaurant, Raha Market, serves breakfasts that that cater for virtually any nationality. There’s a huge selection of tropical fruit, delicious pastries with everything freshly made in-house, eggs cooked to order, curries and other Asian food, cold meats and cheese, and most excitingly for the children, pancakes prepared on request depicting anything from dinosaurs to tanks – real works of art! For lunch and dinner the a la carte menu is extensive, with a good children’s menu, and every meal comes freshly cooked. There are international buffets twice weekly, and the chefs are delighted to cook to order if you want something different. The other two restaurants are Kata, which serves Japanese food, and Azure, which specialises in fish and steak. Both are set over the sea, and it is a great opportunity to spot the occasional shark and ray. For those on set meal plans, all the menus have some more expensive dishes such as lobster that have a supplement attached. The House Reef: for those who like snorkelling, SFF is blessed with one of the best house reefs in the Maldives. Virtually every time we went out snorkelling we saw turtles, eagle rays, reef sharks and of course myriads of beautifully coloured reef fish. It is magical. This trip we only saw manta rays from afar, but on a previous visit came within touching distance of them. There is a dive centre and one of our party did several dives with them at nearby reefs and saw mantas. Turtles nest on the island, and during our stay there were three nest hatchings, with the wonderful sight of baby turtles emerging from the sand and heading to the sea. Facilities for Children: As mentioned, the food options of children are extensive, the huge outdoor pool is wonderful for them to play in, and most importantly the kids club is excellent. The staff are very caring, and every day our grandchildren came out from the club clutching some amazing crafts that they had fashioned during the day. There was a special effort made to run Easter-related activities over the Easter week. Other amenities we used: i) Gym – it is well equipped and the trainers are very helpful in showing even the most experienced gym-bunnies how to use the equipment to its best potential. ii) Tennis Court – the court is floodlit and has recently been relaid with an acrylic surface and is in good condition. iii) Spa - our daughters and husbands reported that their massages were excellent, if rather expensive. Staff: the staff are polite, friendly and helpful and they helped make our holiday enjoyable and relaxing. The staff in the restaurants were all excellent but we especially connected with Emaa, Iyaah and Aizhan, plus the sommelier Sumit who organised an interesting and informative wine tasting for us. The chefs are top-notch, and we were especially grateful to Mos, the pastry chef, who made a delicious cake for a special occasion. Our room attendant, Samah, kept our room beautifully clean, and our butler Jai was always available to respond to questions and requests. Ahmed, the head of the engineering and infrastructure team, took us behind the scenes to explain how the island runs, from desalination, through sewage treatment, to electricity generation including their new eco-project to generate solar power from floating solar panels. We were reminded that as well as the front line staff who you see regularly, there is a small army of people involved behind the scenes in gardening, keeping the beaches tidy, laundry, engineering, administration and so on. Thank you to everyone for making our stay so enjoyable.
