A Beautiful Facade Hiding Chaotic Incompetence

We recently stayed at this hotel following a week long cruise on Icon of the Seas, expecting the "exceptional" 5-star experience promised. While the setting is undeniably stunning, the profound failures in service and management make it impossible to recommend. The Positives (Because they do exist): The hotel's aesthetics are breathtaking. The pool area and beach are pristine and beautiful. Our room was lovely and impeccably maintained, a credit to the hard-working housekeeping staff. The beach attendants were also fantastic—friendly, communicative, and professional. The on-site patisserie/ice cream shop offered delicious, high-quality treats (though at a premium price). Breakfast restaurant staff were also pleasant and efficient. The Reality of the "Fontainebleau 5-Star" Experience: Unfortunately, the above is where the 5-star experience begins and ends. The core of any luxury hotel is its management and front office, and here, the service was catastrophically poor. Front Desk & Management: A Masterclass in Ineptitude. The front office staff i felt were often rude, uncommunicative, and unskilled. They would often whisper amongst themselves or just not say anything to you, ignoring guests. There is clearly no central customer system, requiring guests to repeat their issues ad nauseam with zero resolution. Communication between departments is non-existent. A Caution on Costs: Be aware of the mandatory hotel / resort fee (ours was $53/night plus taxes), which seems to cover very little. While we were aware and happy to pay, many guests were surprised at check-out. Clear communication on this is lacking and perhaps should be explained at check in emphasising what this includes. A Series of Unfortunate Events: Our stay was defined by a chain of service failures: 1. Check-In Chaos: Despite pre-arranging a room upgrade via email, it was not on our file. We had to produce proof, prolonging our wait in a perpetual queue for the front desk. 2. Luggage Labyrinth: After finally getting our room, we were told to call for our bags. An hour and multiple frantic calls later, they arrived after being seemingly lost by the hotel. Earlier, attempting to add a bag to our stored luggage resulted in a run-around for me and bell staff who blamed each other and one dismissed us abruptly. 3. The Locked-Out Fiasco: The most egregious failure occurred when our door lock malfunctioned. Told to wait for security, we were left stranded for over 60 minutes while being ignored by many departments, told conflicting information and a simple situation handled poorly! The Duty Manager’s primary concern wasn't our room access, but obtaining a credit card that was, ironically, locked inside the room. His unprofessional pursuit of this over our comfort was astounding. Empty Apologies & A Token Gesture When we finally escalated our complaints, a manager offered a complimentary late check-out (a $220 value we had previously been quoted) as a "goodwill gesture." While we accepted, this did not excuse the relentless incompetence we endured. Final Verdict: In my opinion, this is not a 5-star hotel. It is a beautifully decorated shell lacking the essential heart of luxury: seamless, professional, and attentive service. If you are simply wanting a room, a sun-bed and lively atmosphere you may be satisfied. If you expect true 5-star service, communication, and competence, look elsewhere. There are far superior establishments that truly understand what "exceptional" means. I find it hard to comprehend that a resort on water with 7500 guests gets it so right but a 5 star hotel on land with not even a quarter of guests can get it so wrong!

Beautiful Hotel, Disappointing Service

The hotel itself is beautiful and well maintained, but the staff could be more welcoming. Unfortunately, our room wasn’t cleaned during the day, so we requested service before heading out for dinner. While we were getting ready, housekeeping knocked.. we asked them to return in just a two minutes. However, when we came back from dinner, the room was still untouched. A bit disappointing for an otherwise wonderful property.

Skip the pool, stay at the beach!

The hotel feels like Vegas but without a casino. The pool scene is no different, with music blasting beyond uncomfortable levels and the chairs all set uncomfortably close together. The beach however is a lovely place for those seeking a more relaxed experience. Rachel and Elizabeth are two of the most delightful members of the beach staff I’ve ever met at a hotel. I watched both work incredibly hard to not just ensure guest’s food and beverage orders were fulfilled, but engaged in conversations to make guests really feel at home while they were on holiday. They remembered guest names, took time to engage in friendly conversation and were regularly available to accommodate whatever needed. While my husband was working, I truly felt I had friends at the hotel with these two ladies which made my trip memorable and enjoyable!
