Mixed Experience at Furaveri: Great Reef, But Several Letdowns

We recently stayed at Furaveri and had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the house reef is expansive and beautiful—perfect for snorkeling. The buggy service is efficient, and the drivers are mostly friendly. Special thanks to our host Ikoo, who was attentive and helpful throughout our stay. We really enjoyed dining at the Asian restaurant and Aqua—they were by far the best options, and we had most of our meals there. Unfortunately, there were several downsides. The buffet’s main dishes were underwhelming—I'd rate them 2 out of 5—and most of the desserts were lukewarm due to the lack of air conditioning. Eating in 30+°C heat was genuinely uncomfortable, and none of us wanted to return to the buffet for dinner. Drinks were also disappointing. We booked through Travelzoo, which included an Ocean Villa Infinity room, but were shocked to find the resort undergoing renovation. Construction noise started early morning, and workers were constantly stationed right outside our villa—definitely not what you expect from a 5-star resort. After we complained, they moved us to a quieter side of the island. Although the new room was a downgrade, they did compensate us with a lobster dinner, which we appreciated. Still, guests should not be placed in active construction zones in the first place. We had originally planned to go scuba diving and even get Open Water certified, but after seeing that the dive center prices were nearly double what other Maldives resorts charge, we decided to just snorkel instead. No regrets though—divers were only a few feet below where we were snorkeling. One particularly upsetting experience— I accidentally left a phone wallet in the safe when I switched rooms, and by the time I went back, it was gone. While I can’t say for sure what happened, it left a bad impression. Luckily, credit cards were cancelled immediately and no money was lost, but I still have to replace my driver’s license. Guests should be extra careful with their valuables, even in the safe. Also, a quick tip: don’t assume the in-room snacks are part of the all-inclusive package. Unlike other resorts, Furaveri charges separately for those—even if you're on an AI plan. Overall, none of us were unhappy, but we weren’t exactly impressed either. It was just an okay trip. Compared to a 3-star resort I visited a couple years ago, I’d actually prefer to go back there. For me, a great Maldives resort should offer air-conditioned dining with buffet food that meets 5-star standards, reasonably priced diving, and an exceptional house reef. Unfortunately, Furaveri only delivered on the reef.

Don’t waste your money and time at this resort. Terrible experience. Go somewhere else. Staff were terrible and not respectful at all. You can’t book any restaurants or service without your host and host was not reachable at all time. Very bad setup at resort for any help going with host only not even main desk were help us. You need to sign every drinks you ordered from bar and looks like someone always keep eye on your order/ food at main restaurant. You can’t go / used to main restaurant for fruits/ snack after you went to special restaurant even you had bad food taste or hungry. All resort policies are very bad. We were not enjoying our dream vacation at this resort at all. Looks like they keep watching on for all foods and drinks consumed by all guests which is very unpleasant and ridiculous. Please don’t go to this resort.
