I work for a University and brought a team of 25 graduate students and faculty. We just returned from using the Golden House for a week and will return again. We saw that a previous reviewer did not have a good experience and that review initially kept us from considering this location. When vetting the area before the trip, however, we checked it out personally and found it to be suitable for our needs. Now, having returned from the DR, I can say that the hotel worked out as well for us as any other hotel we have used in other international locations (we take 4 international trips every year). The rooms were well kept and cleaned daily. The bathroom, in my room at least, looked nothing like the picture posted by the other reviewer but was clean and more updated. The only real negatives I can think of are: the wifi was too weak in the bedroom to be of any use, I needed to be in the hallway for it to be utilized, and the hot water was not consistent in our showers. Some days it was hot, other days it was merely warm. Every time there would be episodes of it switching to cold water before returning to hot/warm. Having stayed in a hotel in Nicaragua where our only choice was "frigid" this was an upgrade so no real complaints. Our dinners were good and they served us a large banquet at the end of our stay which was very good. Other plusses include the fact that it is within walking distance from several nice grocery stores- one of which has a Sweet Frog Frozen Yogurt location in it (which became our nightly destination). The staff were all very helpful and the managers went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed. Overall we were happy with the choice and intend on returning.
