Golden Mare Resort

On the whole this is a lovely hotel. Great position. Generally very Clean. Close to beach and local eateries. Bus stop outside. Pool area pleasant most sunbeds comfortable (apart from couple broken ones). Music sometimes was a bit thumpy but there did seem to be times when it wasn’t on which was great if you wanted a bit of peace. It was nice not to have activities in the pool as there was only one pool. The evening entertainment was generally very pleasant and low key. Staff in bar and restaurant worked hard. I totally agree with the person who left the “Mixed Review” 8 Sept. The food was good but repetitive. The let down was mainly the desserts - we felt we had come to child’s birthday party! Three choices /flavours of Mousse which tasted like Angel delight!) and two choices of jelly some chopped fruit, watermelon. Melon and grapes, and ice-cream. One tart/small gateaux type pudding. Later in the week I think there may have been complaints as chocolate eclairs appeared, a further choice of jelly (🤣) and then another night some pastry cases filled with ….. mousse topped with cream ! Really not acceptable for a 4 star hotel. As mentioned the water was very unpleasant so everyone had to buy their own from the shop if you wanted to enjoy a cup of tea in your room or even just drink water with your meal. The pool glasses from the bar were rather tired and worn. The curtains in our room were coming down both ends.. This was mentioned but wasn’t fixed during our stay. The air conditioning wasn’t great and wouldn’t go below 16. Rather alarmingly one morning we came back to our room to find the balcony doors wide open and no cleaner in sight. (we had left them locked). Anyone could have entered the room as we were virtually street level. Again we mentioned it and at first we were told no-one would come into the room it was very safe in corfu ! A call was put in to housekeeping from the main desk. They suggested that maybe the cleaner was going to come back. They did apologise when they could see we were very concerned. It is a shame really as this is a lovely small hotel and could be great if more attention was paid to the variety of food especially salads and desserts. The overall feeling was they were on a tight budget ! We did not feel we had great value for money paid.

I visited with 4 friends celebrating a 40th for 3 nights. It was the perfect hotel to relax. We asked for 2 rooms next to each other via email and that’s what we were given. Our rooms were accessed from steps on reception and the rooms were great. Spacious with a spacious bathroom too. Shower powerful, hairdryer powerful too. Reception staff were lovely. I’m gluten free and there were plenty of options, the head waiter showed me around the food each meal time as to what I could eat and would check with the chef if not sure. He seemed to just tell me what was in it I.e chicken and veg and so I wasn’t entirely sure if he knew if it was actually gluten free (down to if the stock was gf) but I didn’t get unwell. Plenty of salad, baked chicken, omelettes in the morning, eggs, they also brought out gluten free bread. I didn’t go hungry. My gluten eating friends really enjoyed the food and the options on offer. Entertainment was on for the 3 nights, this was all fine. The pool area was gorgeous, plenty of sunbeds although some could do with being replaced but it is towards the end of the season. No problem in getting a bed but we were by the pool by 8.30 each morning and that first hour was just lovely, not too hot, and a gorgeous view. Even later in the day there were some beds available. All inclusive drinks were tasty. Not the strongest but we were drinking all day, that suited us just fine. We took our own bigger plastic cups as it was my 40th, and this worked out great, whilst I don’t drink beer (gf) the cups were very small for a beer. The staff had no issue in filling these up and meant we didn’t have to get up all the time. We’d heard the water tasted salty, we didn’t try it, we just went the shop next door and got 12 little bottles for €2.20. Really not an issue. Shouldn’t be have to, but didn’t ruin the holiday. Had a massage for €40 which was lovely, although wanted me to review the massage by ticking boxes, whilst she watched what I ticked. Like any brit, I gave her 5* under pressure when I should have given 4* haha. The wasps were a nuisance, perhaps some wasp traps would be good, not sure if that’s a September issue or how environmentally unfriendly it would be. Also take bug spray for the evenings. This is a 4* hotel, we got what we paid for and had a great time.

Our stay was a bit of a mixed bag and we really wanted to like the hotel more. Positives were the extremely friendly and hardworking staff in the restaurant, the room had a great powerful shower, really good AC and a nice sea view. Breakfast and dinner was good, plenty of choice, dinner did get a little repetitive, but we ate out a few nights anyway. Views from the hotel were beautiful and the pool area was relaxing without forced daytime entertainment. Negatives were housekeeping, towels were changed most days but nothing else! I had to ask for bedsheets to be changed, the room wasn’t properly cleaned the whole week and that’s not normal for a four star hotel, it’s expected. By the end of the week, the floors and bathroom were quite grubby. The desserts were the same every night, no Greek choices which was a real shame and the bar drinks were all served out plastic glasses that looked quite worn. Was confused why bottles of water weren’t supplied in room and served in bar and restaurant when all inclusive as the water served in bar and restaurant didn’t taste nice at all. A lovely week and enjoyed Barbati but some aspects considering a four star hotel and price we paid were really disappointing. If this hadn’t been case, would definitely have returned.

The hotel is so beautiful, like on the pictures. The view from the terrace is my favorite. The food is really delicious and the in the staff everybody is so kind . We really glad to meet with Shkurta and Alex, they are the best. They really helped us in everything. I liked my one week in here and i didn’t want to go home. I think we will come back and i recommend this to you too.

I really liked the hotel, it is in a beautiful location. The staff was great, I would especially like to highlight Shkurte Bardhi and Aleks Bardhi.they were so kind, they helped everything, i’m really glad to get to knew them, and we will go back this hotel. I highly recommend it!!
