Golden Mare Resort

We stayed at This Hotel last week.The location is stunning, parts of the Hotel in need of some attention. Rooms were cleaned every day which was good . There were a lot of wasps about , but I don't know what could be done about this. To me the drinks tasted very salted I don't know if this is the water. The drinks were served in plastic reusable ones ,which looked very scratched and old. The pool was very cold , the sea was warmer. To me the only thing that Iet this Hotel down was the restaurant it appeared overlooked in my opinion. People ere comming in and sitting in their wet shorts ect, the staff would look more proffesional in uniforms. There were some males in addidas tracking bottoms and jeans. The female staff were very pleasant. One particular member of staff on his phone and putting is air pods in !! No hand gel about either.

We stayed recently, and want to say it was a lovely break away from the normal routine, the hotel was lovely and clean but felt like some areas were looking tired and needed some level of care. This was rated a 4 star hotel but didn’t feel it met that for us. The pool towels were tired and frayed along with our bathroom light not working at all. With the hotel being an all inclusive resort we felt like the selection of food & drinks weren’t great which led us to eating out several times.

Our stay at the Golden Mare Resort in Corfu was truly wonderful. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with stunning views of the sea and surrounding landscape that created a calm and relaxing setting. The resort itself was beautiful and well-maintained, offering the perfect balance of comfort and tranquility. However, the WiFi wasn’t very strong when away from the reception. What made the experience even more special was the staff — everyone was incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready to help with a smile. A special mention goes to Bill and Dimitra, who went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and memorable. Their kindness and professionalism truly stood out and made us feel right at home.

Had an amazing time at The Golden Mare, Barbati in Corfu! The views were absolutely stunning, the staff were so lovely and incredibly helpful, and everything was spotless and well-kept. The whole place had such a calm, relaxing atmosphere — perfect for unwinding and soaking up the beautiful surroundings. Couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Room was spacious and overlooked the amazing sea view.— amazing value highly recommend!

I honestly have no idea how this hotel has had so many bad reviews, maybe me and my partner got lucky but we had an incredible experience at this hotel. As soon as we arrived we were welcomed by two friendly staff members, were shown to our room and said we could ring if we needed anything. The room was lovely, spacious and comfortable, air con was working fabulously and can definitely say In the summer I bet guests would appreciate it as it’s very powerful. We had a side sea view balcony which you could see different parts of Corfu and the Albanian mountains in the distance. Cleaners came every day but there was a button to say do not disturb if you didn’t want them to. The door was left open each time they came, not a major issue for us as we ruled it down to them letting air in the room while we were out, it’s a safe hotel so we saw no issue with it. The pool was great, no wasps at all and lots of beds available, a bar on hand for drinks while you’re sunbathing which was perfect. Drinks could sometimes be salty but again me and my partner we like to understand where we’re staying and do our research and we know we’re on an island and it’s common for the water to be saltier. So no issue for us. The all inclusive food was great as well, different options every night and a much better choice than others i’ve stayed at where they just do pizza and chicken nuggets. The options here were healthy and things you might not have tried before as it’s their local cuisine. If you have an issue with it there’s a supermarket or restaurants along the road. (I don’t think it’s fair to complain about the food when it’s what they eat, you can get pizza at home, try something new) We didn’t get chance to go up to the roof top bar but on our last night we had a nosey and wished we had because it was very spacious and private and seemed lovely for couples to have a quiet minute away from the more populated areas of the hotel and the entertainment. The entertainment was fantastic! We thoroughly enjoyed coming down every night to eat and sit by the bar and watch whatever was on. The singers were brilliant and so engaging with the crowd. If you didn’t want to watch then there’s a pool table and ping pong table and some games provided with a table under shelter but leading out to a smaller terrace just below the pool area with cushioned sofas. For out of hotel experiences, I’d say don’t expect a lot as this is a secluded part of Corfu I’d say so don’t expect party places, there’s a small beach opposite the hotel you can reach by walking through one of the bars (be prepared for a steep walk down steps). Or there’s Barbati beach a 10 minute walk away with watersports. We booked a boat with Spiros boat hire, which was €125 euros for the whole day to go off by yourself and it was incredible. There are a couple supermarkets and restaurants along the way to that beach. There is a bus station outside of the hotel which there is a timetable at reception or at the actual station. It costs around €2-3 per person and was very comfortable. There are lots of destinations it goes to if you want to venture away from Barbati. We went to the old town and had a great day exploring. I’d recommend this rather than a taxi (we took a taxi back and it was €50) There is also a shop right next to reception which is perfect for grabbing bottles of water or snacks. There is also souvenir's etc, so you don’t have to walk for to get what you want. Overall we had a great time, it was our first holiday together and it was perfect for time alone and bonding. We’ve both said we’ll come back as it was perfect for what we wanted which was to relax and explore. For everyone making bad reviews, I would do your research before visiting anywhere. If you come in peak times then expect busy and expect rushing, the staff will have 100 things on their mind as well as tending to you. Expect there to be bugs especially if you have your balcony door open (it happens we get them in the UK too). Some things can’t be helped so it’s better to have an open mind and just enjoy your holiday. Thank you very much Golden Mare Resort for a wonderful holiday!
