Poor customer service seems to have stopped caring

Where do I start with this? I am so sad to have to write this as I love Thailand but we were let down by this hotel and felt so upset by the customer service almost wanted to leave. We booked through ethiad holidays, a deluxe pool view… Show more room for a family of 4. When we arrived we were certainly not warmly greeted. I tried to make small talk about the recent storm with the reception and got one word answers and grunts. The concierge drove us to our room reluctantly never said a word, I tipped and they didn’t even say thank you. I don’t expect the red carpet but this was sharp contrast to how we were treated in Phuket. That didn’t really bother me but it all piled up from there. Arrived at the delux pool view room and the view was of the restaurant you had to lean over the balcony to see the room below. Not great when you have children, especially as they can climb on the seats and really lean over. But that wasn’t it, and not really a big deal. Until I saw the bed, the ‘extra bed’ for my child, it looked like it had been stored in a rat infested cupboard and eaten away and then rolled out and my daughter expected to sleep on it. It was awful, I first contacted my rep who said they had contacted reception who would sort it. Arrived at reception, they had no idea what I was talking about. Tried To explain and they took us to ‘a new room’ which was the same as the other one with the exception of a non restaurant facing view. It was the bed I had an issue with. I asked for one with a second ‘proper bed’ they said they would take me to the manager. I arrived and she greeted me with ‘yes’ I explained and showed her pictures and apparently this is my problem and not theirs as I booked that room. She said I could upgrade for £400, which was extortionate to get a bed fit to sleep in as my child wouldn’t sleep in it. I think what shocked me the most was the way she spoke to me and how she said I was causing them problems and it was my problem's not theirs. I think to provide that bed to a child is a disgrace and they should have fixed it for her. They refused to help unless we paid, my child in tears. Poor customer service really. Obviously that left a sour taste but we tried to just carry on. One thing that was somewhat annoying is the staff all think it’s ok to walk around in their phones the whole time (with the exception of a minority of staff) they sit around if not serving people and seem to have no desire to do more then the minimal. Breakfast was nice and varied a broad selection. However the food at the beach bar for lunch was poor. We ate at Tonga on an evening which was lovely. The rooms spacious and mostly clean, getting a bit worn in places and lots of tiny bugs on the dresser tops. Bathrooms nice. Pools are large and plenty but quite cold and not the cleanest I’ve been in or seen. I know it’s the low season but the place felt ‘dead’ in the vibe and service overall. We ended up having an ‘ok’ stay after a terrible start but would never return. Show less
