Halepuna is the best!

Halepuna is the best! I visit Honolulu three to four times a year to relax and enjoy golfing, and for the past two to three years, Halepuna has been my go-to choice for every stay. I used to stay at various other properties, such as the Surfrider, but to me, Halepuna offers the most comfortable experience in every aspect.

Everything was perfect and this is our new “return to Waikiki” hotel. We came here to rest, recharge, explore a little (not a lot, we’ve been to this Island before, and done all the things, and we’re so tired!), and swim in the ocean. I enjoyed the pool immensely! The attendants were so kind and helpful setting me up with a shady lounge chair and bringing me beverages while I just relaxed, swam, soaked, enjoyed the glorious view, and the peacefulness. I chose a mountain-view room and we loved watching the clouds move across them, and seeing the city lights on the 19th floor. We enjoyed being close to the multitude of dining options and the private beach just across the street. We felt well-cared for by the staff, and comfortable with the respectful amiability of our fellow guests.

It’s alright…

I recently stayed at Halepula in Waikiki and unfortunately left disappointed overall. The reception staff were very warm and kind upon arrival, which was one of the highlights of the stay. However, several other issues significantly impacted the experience. I paid for a standard “view” room, but the only thing visible from my room was the neighboring hotel. There was absolutely no view of the sun, sky, beach, or anything remotely scenic, which felt misleading for Waikiki accommodations. Room service was also very poor and not something I would recommend. The biggest concern was the elevator situation. The elevators were apparently experiencing issues during my stay, and on my final night a couple ran out of the elevator on my floor visibly terrified after the elevator dropped while the emergency alarm was going off. I called to complain afterward, but no warning signs or barriers were placed in front of the elevator. Guests were still expected to use it, and everyone on the property was forced to share a single elevator on a busy Friday night. Overall, while the front desk staff were pleasant, the safety concerns, poor room experience, and lackluster service would make it difficult for me to recommend staying here.
