Iberostar Selection Lagos Algarve

Wonderful and spacious hotel with 3 pools and facing the sea. There is a pleasant boardwalk on the dunes behind the beach opposite the hotel that takes you to Lagos in 30-40 minutes (a taxi fare back is €7). What made this stay memorable was the staff who would do everything possible to accommodate you. A big thank you in particular to: - Carolina, the manageress who worked so hard and helped us on several occasions. - Jason at reception - Katarina (who also recommended us fantastic places to visit) and Sofia from the animation team - All the staff in the restaurant, welcoming staff, waiters and chefs. We enjoyed the evenings and in particular the Portuguese evening and Motown. It is a pity that there is no separate room used for the evening entertainment. The swimming pools were very large but rather cold apart from the heated indoor pool. Plenty of spaced out loungers around the pools where it was quiet and calm. We stayed in a pool view room which was spacious and had a big terrace with loungers and had sunshine throughout most of the day. The hotel is well maintained and spotlessly clean. I had a lovely surprise on my birthday: a lovely cake and Cava were delivered in style to our room. Thank you! Sadly, we would not recommend this hotel for people with limited mobility as there are a few steps to use between different levels and no handrails. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay which exceeded our expectations. We will definitely return. Thank you very much.

The experience of our stay here was amazing. From our arrival to departure everything was wonderful. The staff cannot do enough for the guests. Very family friendly. The quality of the food was unbelievable, every taste is catered for and delicious. Shout out to Marcus who was amazing with our granddaughter also Jason who was so welcoming on our arrival and departure. I have never stayed anywhere as nice. Not far from the town of Lagos and is very close to the beach. Entertainment each night was fabulous. Cannot wait to return 🙏❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

We stayed at another Iberostar Selection hotel some time ago and thought we’d give this one a try. There were some good things about the hotel, but quite a few that were not good (in our opinion) and certainly not worthy of the 5* rating. The reason for the title? It’s quite simple, on arrival at any business, especially hospitality, the way you are greeted by the first impressions team aka reception, usually tells you a lot about the business and their focus, or lack of, on the customer. Walking through the doors of tether hotel, the reception/lobby area is bright and modern, as is the hotel, but more of that later. Walked up to reception to check in and we were greeted by two of the unfriendliest, cold, detached, bored looking reception staff we’ve ever encountered. They were actually borderline rude. We were told in a very abrupt way that our rooms weren’t ready and wouldn’t be so until 3.00 pm. Fortunately, the attitude of the reception staff was not repeated by the rest of the staff during our stay, who were all the complete opposite of the two charmless reception robots. On first appearance, the rooms seem large and nicely appointed. On closer inspection, there is insufficient lighting, an open plan bathroom, ( at least the toilet has a door, and a bath stuck right in the middle of this open plan madness. Worst still, we discovered that there is no separate light in the toilet, see if you need to pay a visit in the nigh and don’t have a phone with a light, you’ll probably break your neck and fall into the stupid bath in the middle of the floor. Our room was in the ground floor overlooking the lower pool. Very convenient, except our bedroom door was faulty and every time someone opened the door to the outside, our door rattled. It took three attempts to get Mainainence to turn up to have a look. They did fix it and also realised there was a fault with the auto close of the outside door, so at least that was a result. We also reported that one of the bedside reading lights didn’t work, neither did the USB. We were there for eight nights, and when we left to come home they still weren’t working. Whoever designed this hotel should never be allowed to build anything again. Access around the hotel is a joke. It’s upside down so reception etc is upstairs and bedrooms downstairs. You have get a lift up and then walk down to to the resultant as the lifts don’t provide access to all areas on all floors…crazy. Sunbeds we’re very comfortable and very peaceful (most of the time) around the pool. I read a previous review which commented on loose paving slabs……still loose! Breakfast and dinner were excellent. We were half board. Lots of choice and variety. Every night had a theme and the food, although not always as hot as it could be, was generally very good. The service in the restaurant and bars was also very good and always greeted with a smile. They could teach the reception staff a thing or two. The hotel is in a quiet part of Lagos….actually it’s not in Lagos, it’s a 5-10 minute Uber ride away. There is very little life around the hotel and other than a couple of beach restaurants opposite, there nowhere else local for lunch. Fortunately, the two are both very good and not expensive. The hotel does have a snack bar, but it wasn’t great and the choice seemed a bit limited compared with the equivalent eateries in many other hotels. Now, the “entertainment” which we know is down to personal choice. They offered “live” music most nights, apart from the night when there was a magician whose act was as old as the hills and just as boring. The Motown tribute night was by far the best. The three guys were amazing and deserved a much bigger audience that they got. There was a band called Generation XX1 who were ok. Fado night was actually better than expected. The rest? Oh dear. Duos with no sense of rhythm, playing well known songs at half speed and about as warm and charming as the ladies on reception. The last night we were there we were “entertained” by a duo who never introduced themselves, never spoke to the dwindling audience, and were just awful. They are probably used to performing at funerals! So, would we return? In a word, No. Food and service excellent, bed comfy, poor design and appalling lighting. Entertainment, probably more lively in a funeral home! Are we put off Iberostar Selection? No but not this one!
