After reading all of the great reviews on here, we booked this “resort” for 10 days in May. We reserved the Premium Oceanfront Villa, which was the second most expensive room to book (the most expensive was the same room but with a jacuzzi) . Upon arrival we checked in and were accompanied to our room with our butler, Iseal. Our room was in Block 33 on the second floor, small, no table or chairs inside in the room and run-down. Our balcony faced the ocean, however there was construction going on so it actually faced trucks running with the smell of diesel fuel and banging and crashing all day. It was also next to restaurants so the noise well into the night with clanging dishes, yelling and singing by the employees was ridiculous. After a few frustrating nights, we requested a move. We dealt with Noel, and he moved us to Block 14. I mentioned to him that this room was a downgrade and that I should get a refund for the difference in price and he told me “it’s a better room category than the one we had”. Not true! I have access to the website! I wanted a rate reduction because of this, but there was no way that was happening with him. After being out all day, we came back to the room and the air conditioning was not working. Eventually someone came and tried to fix it and we had to stay in our room while this was happening. We missed our dinner reservation that night and the air conditioner was never fixed. We spent the 7 out of 10 days with NO air conditioning and it was hot! Noel told us to turn on the ceiling fan. The problem was, there wasn’t one!! We were promised a portable fan, then told we couldn’t have one due to some regulation. We had to keep our blinds closed at all times to avoid the room turning in to a sauna Noel did offer to change our room again, but warned that it was in the location of our first room - the one with the construction below. For obvious reasons we passed. As well, the inside security lock did not work. We asked for it to be fixed and days later were told we needed to be in the room to have this done. It was never repaired/fixed. We should have received a credit for the room change as it was no fault of our own. And our new room was worse! But again, they DO NOT care. On our second last day, Iseal offered us a “free” massage. We passed. I wanted a decent holiday and what I paid for! Not a massage! I will say that our housekeeper was great! FOOD: the food was a hit or miss and never seemed fresh. We ate at On The Grill one night. My husband had a ribeye ordered medium rare. It was like shoe leather. I ordered the barbecued back ribs. They were poached or boiled and served cold. The Premium buffet was ok I guess on the grand scale, but the pastries were rock hard and there were flies everywhere. The main buffet was overcrowded and not appetizing at all. We were hungry our entire trip - and I lost weight! We also had stomach issues many days and we only drank or brushed our teeth with bottled water. We talked to other guests who had the same stomach issues and complaints about the food. Villa Magna was so noisy with construction, we couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Our best meal was at Wendy’s at the airport on our way home POOLS: dirty! For 2 days the water in the “Quiet Pool” was below the filters. The water was disguting. Not to mention the entitled people who played their loud music and NO ONE did anything even after I asked the lady serving at the bar to talk to them. The “Premium Pool” was a free-for-all and anyone and everyone was there. Dirty cups, straws. One day the water was so murky and needed cleaning but….. BARS: understaffed. The “Premium Bar” Maritin’s served anyone, premium or not. Tournamile Bar had constant long line ups. The Premium Bar next to the lobby was good. Anna rocked it and always knew when and what to serve us. She was great! BEACH: they did a god job of cleaning up the sargassum. There were lots of loungers but the beach was rarely cleaned - dirty cups, straws, etc. from inconsiderate guests. They recycle the cups and I saw an employee picking them out of the garbage. I had a cup with lipstick on it and, no, I wasn't wearing lipstick. GENERAL: if you’re Latin, you’re golden. If not, do not expect hospitality. Many times I was served last, after waiting the longest. Our butler spoke very little English, so what’s the point?! Once they have your money, you’re nobody. We were there to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We mentioned that when booking our room, it was mentioned to us at check-in, our butler knew, Noel knew but no nice surprises. We saw a lot of birthday and anniversary decorations, etc. in other rooms, but……. Surprising no one, there was nothing. There is also a sewer smell in different areas of the resort. We had a strong smell of it in our room and I returned home with a respiratory issue. In summary, if you’re booked here and can’t get out of it, go armed with the above information. Don’t book premium, but go to the premium pool and the premium bars and drink top shelf liquor that premium guests pay extra for because they don’t care! Bring yourselves snacks and Imodium. And if you’re not booked here but are considering this resort, DON’T do it! We spent a lot of money and this was by far the worst all inclusive we have ever been to. A waste of money and vacation time
