It’s expensive but probably worth the money for a romantic staycation (one night), especially if you want to go walking or cycling around Sanur and swimming / sunbathing on the beach, or just want to spend lots of time in the room watching the sea and the boats. Despite the same name and location, Intercontinental Bali Sanur (IBS) is extremely different to Intercontinental Bali Uluwatu (IBU), just 1 hour drive away. Don’t let the same name fool you! IBS is very peaceful and minimalist, with just one, massive, plain pool and a small (but nice) gym. There’s no spa (just massage rooms). There’s no entertainment and just a couple of restaurants. There’s no club lounge or extra VIP amenities. IBU is more maximalist in vibe, with multiple pools that are all huge and highly adorned with plants / statues etc. The spa is enormous with multiple pools / garden / cafe / steam room / sauna etc. They have a live band in a fancy cocktail bar and lots of other entertainment, plus loads of restaurants. There’s also two (!) club lounges for regular subscribers and VIP bookings. So pick IBU if you want the over the top / massive jampacked schedule with loads to see and explore and do. Pick IBS if you want calm, peaceful, minimalist, etc. We also said that our fave part of the hotel was the breakfast at the new Layang-Layang restaurant. Pier 8 for dinner also nice but it was the breakfast at Layang-Layang which I think was the highlight of the whole trip. Personally overall I had a better experience at IBS than IBU! But of course it just depends on your personality. As a subscriber to Intercontinental Ambassador programme, IBS offers room upgrade and 2 x free cocktails per person (ie 4 x free cocktails in total). By contrast, most Intercontinetal hotels offer access to the club lounge for afternoon tea / cocktails etc, but IBS doesn’t have this. So don’t expect much in the way of extras compared with the normal Intercontinental experience.
