Despite reading several negative reviews beforehand, we decided to give the resort the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a huge mistake. We arrived with low expectations and open minds, but nothing could have prepared us for how truly unbearable our stay would be. My first room was overrun with lizards — not just the occasional one you’d expect on a tropical island, but four or more visibly darting around the room at any given time. The rooms are not sealed properly, with cracks and holes throughout. The gap above the door was so wide it could fit a towel folded several times. It was a constant stream of unwelcome wildlife. After two sleepless nights — and in tears at the thought of spending my birthday in these conditions — I demanded to be moved at 1am. The second room was slightly better in terms of lizards but shockingly dirty. I was grateful they moved me quickly, but I raised serious cleanliness concerns the next morning. Unfortunately, nothing was ever addressed. The door didn’t lock, the shower lacked a curtain, and the room had several maintenance issues. Black mold lined the bathroom tiles, there were stains on the toilet walls, the seat was discolored, and dust covered most furnishings. The beds were hard and squeaky, and the linens were off-white at best. To make matters worse, we experienced a full-blown ant infestation in the bathroom. My daughter couldn’t even use the shower because it was swarming with ants in the morning. Housekeeping was superficial — beds were made, towels changed, and a bar of soap replaced, but the sand we brought back from the beach remained untouched for days. The hygiene problems extended to the dining experience as well. The buffet was tiny, barely larger than a school cafeteria counter, and the selection was dismal. One evening, both my friend and I fell ill after eating there. The snack bar was no better — limited and stingy. Safety and comfort were further compromised by stray dogs roaming the property, including corridors near guest rooms. It was unsettling, especially at night, and we were frequently woken up by barking in the early hours. To top it all off, my friend’s room had a disturbing experience. An open closet connected to her bathroom — completely empty — twice erupted in loud banging and scurrying noises, which we believe was a rat. That was the final straw. After enduring four miserable days, we cut our losses and moved to a luxury villa. It was an unexpected expense, but absolutely worth it to salvage the remainder of our holiday. I only wish we had left sooner. The only positive note was the receptionist, Vanessa, who was kind. The resort itself has potential, but it’s completely overshadowed by neglect, poor maintenance, and a lack of basic cleanliness and care. This stay not only ruined the start of what was supposed to be a dream holiday in Mauritius but came close to ruining my entire birthday. I truly hope others think twice before booking. It was one of the most regrettable travel experiences I’ve ever had!
