FIRST IMPRESSIONS We stayed at this resort for the second week of our Honeymoon. We were greeted warmly at reception by the staff, and our bags were collected and taken to our room. This was a nice professional touch. Our room was large enough (suite - pool access) and included a 4 poster bed, with drawstring drapes to keep out any pesky blood sucking uninvited guests. There is also an onsite spa which provides many services such as facials, massages etc RESTAURANT BREAKFAST SERVICE There is a lot of choice for breakfast. You can find the menu online for further research. One downside to the breakfast (which I hope they do improve) is that you are repeatedly asked to confirm exactly what you want for breakfast, the day before, including a specific timeframe. We found this consistently inconvenient, as we didn't always know specifically what we would like or the timeframe we might want it, the day before. Most hotels will let you order what you want as you arrive the same morning for breakfast. Overall the service was very good, and the staff are attentive. RESTAURANT DINNER SERVICE Again, there are a lot of options available on the menu, and the food is tasty, generously portioned, and well presented. We didn't find a bad option here, and everything we chose was enjoyable, tasty, and presentation was impressive. RESTAURANT GENERAL THOUGHTS At the beginning of our week, we found the restaurant staff to be slightly unwelcoming and a bit rude. My wife was informed on our 3rd day she couldn't have breakfast (Timeframes were 7.30am to 11.00am serving times) as she had arrived at 9.50am, hadn't confirmed her order the day before, and breakfast was only served until 11.00am, which of course, doesn't make a lot of sense. She stood her ground and calmly explained there was still over an hour to go before breakfast time ended, and that it was included within our stay. Only then did the staff relent and offer her the menu. A bizarre interaction, and one that soured her opinions. ROOM OPINIONS (Suite w/ Pool View) We didn't care for the room we were in very much. The wardrobe smelt of mold, and so we didn't want to hang our clean clothes in it. The shower also had a strong mold smell when first we entered, but this seemed to reduce as we utilised the shower over the course of the 7 days. There were not nearly enough sun loungers available for all the rooms available, so this became a bit of a race in the mornings to secure one (Brits abroad will be familiar with this battle I'm sure). For some other points related to our room, the TV was not smart enabled, so at night there was no way to connect our Netflix or Prime accounts after a busy day to wind down with a show or movie (I realise this may not be a big deal for all travellers, but it was for us). The bed was large, comfortable (very firm - your results may vary on comfort here) and had tables either side for a lamp and somewhere to put your 'in reach' items. The 4 poster bed as mentioned had surrounding drapes to keep out bugs too. The tile floor was very classy but be careful walking around after a shower, as could be easy to slip. Possibly due to the location (it's quite remote - hence being labelled as a retreat) we found 3 separate geckos in our room (the housekeeping staff were kind enough to remove one of them) and if glasses and cups were left out, we regularly found very small bugs crawling all over them the next morning, so be mindful of this. LOCATION NOTES I cannot stress this enough (although may be obvious to some) the location is very remote, so this carries the strengths of being very quiet (apart from local flora & fauna like frogs and birds you can hear most of the time) but the weakness of being very far away from civilization. So for things to do, you are set if you enjoy peace & quiet and a lot of relaxation. We struggled with this, as we are more active & most activities are at least an hour away (often more) so you will need to employ a taxi driver almost daily if you like to get around Bali and take up the many activities on offer around the island. I would suggest doing a lot of research before choosing this resort to make sure it is for you as it cost us taxi charges every day to ensure we were not stuck around the pool every day. For example, the closest beach is actually over 2 hours away! This is not a negative of the resort itself, I just wanted to include this to make people aware of what they are signing up for. OVERALL THOUGHTS Reception Staff: Very Polite and Friendly Restaurant Staff: Not as Friendly or welcoming Room: Overall happy, needs some improvements Resort: Perfect for people who want quiet, calm, relaxation. Not great for those who want to stay busy. WOULD WE COME BACK? Probably not, due to it not being the kind of resort we enjoyed. This was not enjoyable for us overall, but that may just be that Hays Travel booked us somewhere not suitable for what we expected / wanted from our Honeymoon. PS. We did get a little keepsake bag at the end of our stay which was a really nice touch, and some of the staff were so kind and friendly (Beckham, you were great!) but unfortunately not all of them.
