Great Hotel / Very Uncommon Poor Experience.

This is our third consecutive year staying at the Kimpton, whenever we visit Grand Cayman. Our stay was a little different this occasion. I sent the following response to the hotel, shortly after checking into room 919. “On Friday, I received a message welcoming me to the hotel and inviting me to reach out if I needed anything. At that time, I provided honest feedback regarding our room. While it is described as a partial ocean view, it also has full visibility and ongoing noise from the delivery access road, which appears to service staff parking and special events. In addition, directly from our balcony we have a clear view of multiple piles of trash as well as homeless individuals in the area. This is unfortunately not what I would consider an upgrade by any means. What has been most disappointing is that after expressing my concerns, I never received any follow-up response from anyone at the Kimpton. We truly love the island, as well as the Kimpton, which is why we have chosen to stay here for three consecutive years. That history is what makes this experience especially frustrating.” Unfortunately I was not dignified with a response, even after providing photos to support my experience with less than a day on the property. After speaking with other guests at the Library bar, it seems like everyone is informed they have been upgraded, but it not much of an upgrade. The day prior to my departure I was compensated with 35,000 IHG points, as well as $100.00 in hotel credit. Mind you this was at the very end of my stay, and was only brought to light because I reiterated how this should have been discussed on the front side of our stay, and disregarded until our very last day. Having incurred a daily resort fee of $95.00 per day, in addition to the expense of staying at the Kimpton, fell short of what I would have expected for a poor experience at a 5 star resort.

Perfect Family Trip

My family (husband and our 3.5 year old) visited Kimpton Seafire the first week of May and had an exceptional experience. They greeted us with welcome drinks (champagne for us and fresh tropical juice for our daughter) and brownies. They acknowledged my platinum status and gave us a fantastic upgrade. This is the most child family placed we have ever stayed. There is a shallow pool (0 up to 2 feet) right in front if the beach, a splash park, and also a huge ledge in the main pool thats about a foot deep - perfect for toddlers. The staff even greeted us and my daughter by name at the restaurants. The entire resort is SO clean and well maintained. Food is a little pricey but we expected that. Happy hour from 5-6 daily was lovely - wine and appetizers for the adults and fruit snacks with capri suns for kids. There is a free coffee bar every morning that we very much appreciated. All the staff were incredibly helpful anytime we had questions. The beach is great and there were always chairs available there and at the pool.

The hotel very clean and all but I staff we awesome.(library bar lady was rude when we didn’t order food) We have stayed at Hotel indigo also and it was nice as well. But because of the affordability of hotel indigo, we did notice a lot more people with children.

Sea Fire Spa at Seven Mile Beach is a true gem and the perfect place to unwind while visiting Grand Cayman. From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere feels calm, luxurious, and thoughtfully designed to help you relax. The setting is beautiful, and everything about the experience encourages you to slow down and fully disconnect. The treatments were exceptional, with skilled therapists who really take the time to understand what you need and deliver a personalized experience. Every detail felt intentional, from the soothing environment to the quality of the products used. What really stands out is how refreshed you feel afterward. It’s not just a spa treatment, it’s a full reset for both body and mind. If you’re staying near Seven Mile Beach, this spa is absolutely worth booking and easily one of the most relaxing experiences on the island.

Honest review of a lovely place

I’ve just returned from a fantastic week in Grand Cayman, and the Kimpton Seafire Resort was our choice for staying on the island. Both for work and leisure, we travel extensively around the world and have stayed at many hotels and resorts in this price range. I have to say that perhaps the Kimpton is missing a bit of the “wow” factor. Don’t get me wrong — it’s a beautiful resort in an incredible location, with attentive and friendly staff, but honestly I don’t find the nightly rates entirely justified. I understand that the Cayman Islands are generally an expensive destination, but for the same price I could stay in a private beach villa in the Maldives (just to give an example), rather than in a “standard” room in a 10-story hotel. This is not so much a criticism of the Kimpton as it is a personal reflection. Back to my stay in the Cayman Islands: we didn’t actually pay cash because we booked using IHG points, and as a Diamond Elite member, we were upgraded at check-in to a King Sea View room. We were welcomed with a glass of sparkling rosé, and since the room wasn’t ready yet, we immediately headed to Seven Mile Beach, the true star of Grand Cayman (although inexplicably, despite the amazing sea, many people seem to prefer staying by the pool). The days fly by at the Kimpton Seafire: sun, sea, a drink (or maybe two), dinner on the beach… we had such a great time. Our room was on the top floor, and the balcony overlooked the northern side of Seven Mile Beach, which feels a bit more “wild” compared to the southern area. The room was modern, spacious, clean, perfectly air-conditioned, and had an extremely comfortable bed, but honestly it didn’t give me a true luxury feeling. The room lacked amenities such as a coffee machine or a speaker for playing music, as well as beach bags to use during the stay — although I realize these are first-world problems. On top of the nightly room rate, there is also the Resort Fee (a hefty USD 95 per night), which is mandatory and unfortunately has become quite popular in certain parts of the world. It includes various services such as valet parking, beach service, non-motorized water sports, and other amenities. The Seafire also offers one of the classic Kimpton touches: the social hour with wine and snacks, as well as complimentary morning coffee. There are several restaurants available to guests, and I have to say they were all excellent since I tried every one of them. In addition, at The Library bar, listed among the 50 Best Bars in North America, you can enjoy delicious cocktails in a beautiful atmosphere, often accompanied by live music. Since I am a Diamond Elite member, breakfast was included, and I must say the buffet at Ave restaurant was truly varied and of excellent quality. They even served Billecart-Salmon champagne. As already mentioned, the resort is quite large and has many rooms, so some areas can occasionally feel crowded, especially the pool, which seemed slightly undersized considering it is more popular than the beach. The loungers are practically all occupied from early morning. During my stay there were several corporate conventions taking place, which meant that private events were regularly held in different areas of the resort, slightly diminishing the overall atmosphere. Going back to the somewhat unpleasant issue of sunbeds, there are several signs stating that reserving loungers is not allowed and that any belongings left on chairs before 8:00 AM will be removed. In reality, however, this is not enforced: by 7:30 AM I had already found rather aggressive guests reserving front-row beach spots, some of whom then disappeared for the rest of the day. A few additional thoughts about the beach: besides preventing these uncivilized behaviors of people reserving loungers and then leaving, it would be nice if the beach staff actually removed belongings after a certain amount of time instead of allowing chairs to remain “occupied” all day long. Also, because of inconsiderate guests leaving trash on the sand (such as cigarettes, cups, bottle caps, sunscreen bottles, etc.), better beach cleaning would be appreciated. For example, I saw the same orange slice lying on the sand for three consecutive days. The stretch of sea in front of the Kimpton may not be the most beautiful part of Seven Mile Beach (though don’t worry, it is still spectacular): there are some rocky areas underwater, but above all the swimming area is far too small because of the buoys marking it off, since on both sides of the resort there are water sports companies operating jet skis, boats, and other activities throughout the day. Personally, I almost always went swimming in nearby sections of the beach where the sea truly looks like a swimming pool and where it was possible to swim peacefully without the chaos of water sports. The service was consistently excellent: everyone working here was always kind, smiling, and helpful. Just a short walk from the Kimpton is the Indigo Hotel, another IHG property that also hosts several restaurants, in case you want to eat somewhere outside the Seafire without having to take a car or taxi. I spent an absolutely wonderful week in this part of the Caribbean, which I had never visited before, and I’m very happy about that. However, I’m not convinced I would return unless I found a particularly good rate.
