My husband and I stayed at the Kresten for our 10 year wedding anniversary. We travelled mid-September and we are in our late 40’s with no kids so our opinions might not match those of anyone travelling younger/older or with kids. We flew from Belfast and got a private transfer to the hotel and used the same company back again booked through Love Holidays. I would highly recommend this as the journey wasn’t long, maybe 20 minutes but the comfort of getting off the plane and being on our way quickly was great. I know there have been some people who have experienced issues with Rhodes airport but we were through customs within 10 minutes and our bags were off the plane within 20 minutes. The airport is small so when we came out of the baggage area all the taxi/buses were immediately there and easy to find. On our return we booked the airport lounge and again this was really worth it just to have somewhere relaxing to wait. Again we got through security and passport control in under 30 minutes but the airport was really busy so the lounge was a life saver. What I found for all journeys we took during our time in Rhodes was that the taxi’s/buses were always on time and in some cases early. We arrived at the hotel late at night – around 11.30pm and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. They had mentioned they hadn’t had anyone stay from Northern Ireland in over 2 years so asked loads of questions and seemed interested. As we had arrived so late there was a small room with sandwiches, fruit, some hot food etc which was really welcomed after travelling. The room we picked was a Junior Suite with a Private Pool which we did as it a special occasion. When we arrived there were rose petals and towels made into swans on the bed which was a lovely touch. The mini bar was stocked with water and cold drinks as well as a complimentary bottle of wine which was very nice. Some things about the room:- • There was a coffee machine that the pods for were all restocked daily. • The room also had beach towels, nice toiletries, a hairdryer, a beach bag, robes and slippers. • The bathroom had a jacuzzi bath which was actually really nice to use • The room was also really big and had a sitting area and TV which we didn’t use but I think it only had a couple of English speaking channels like the News etc so maybe bring a firestick or table • As well as standard European plugs there was also some USB ports beside the bed • Cleaning was daily and was always spotless. • The aircon was a life saver on those really hot days. • There was also a room service menu which came at an extra cost to use. • The shop sells pool floats for around £10 - £15 which we gave to the room next door when we left Some things of note:- • If you want something a bit special they have a ‘dinner on the beach’ experience which is amazing with a private areas setup with lights and music and a personal waiter with food to your taste. Its best to contact the hotel before you travel to get booked. • We requested a late check out which they gave us free of charge up to 2pm. Our pick up wasn’t until 7.30pm but they let us keep the all inclusive bands all day so we could use all the facilities until we left. • There is an app for both the hotel restaurants and buses so download these on day 1 and that way you can book as needed. As an example the bus to Rhodes was around £4 per person return. A taxi to Rhodes is £15 each way. • You can travel to Turkey on a day trip so if you have never been to Turkey before or want to do something different this would be a good trip. You can organise it for pick up and return from the hotel and its usually around 8am pick up and return around 6pm. • Onsite is a spa, boutique shop, a small market shop, pool tables, a small arcade area, 2 swimming pools with the largest being at the bottom end of the hotel, a champagne bar that opens at 5pm, a main bar and an amphitheatre for evening entertainment. • You will see lots of cats wandering the grounds; they are friendly and the shop sells cat food so you can feed them. • If you intend to use the Spa wait until you get there as you can 'haggle' the price and also before you go download a free ticket which gives you 15 minutes extra added on to any treatment booked that lasts over 75 minutes. As an overview of the hotel; some of the best points … • The hotel itself looks great with an upmarket feel with lots of bar and cozy, private seating areas • There were always sun loungers by the pools • Everywhere was spotlessly clean and rooms etc were cleaned daily • There were several places to eat so if you wanted casual or dressed up you could do this easily. There is an app to download that helps manage your restaurant bookings • Staff were friendly and always open to help even at busy times • Food was lovely and even as a vegetarian there were always options • Getting around on buses or taxi’s is relatively cheap • Although it was very warm the hotel had a slight breeze due to it being higher up so it made the heat bearable • The spa treatments were great and I would recommend the massages • Dinner on the beach was amazing Some of the (very small) areas for improvement – really nitpicking now:- • If you have kids there is really nothing for them to do in the hotel as there was no entertainment team that we could see • Hotel is on its own so there isn’t any bars or restaurants within walking distance although a short taxi/bus will get you to towns • The evening entertainment doesn’t last long and on two of the nights there was no entertainment • There is no real beach as such; it’s a small area at the bottom of the hotel with loungers accessed by very steep steps • There sometimes was a queue for the main restaurant which seemed odd as there were loads of empty tables but I think it was how they cleared and reset the tables that slowed things down a bit Overall if you are looking for a relaxing break with good food, friendly people, happy to make your own entertainment or travel outside the hotel for nights out then this is the perfect space for you.
