Beautiful setting, but sadly not the 5★ experience we expected Overview We stayed at Lindos Grand Resort for 8 nights and, unfortunately, left feeling very disappointed. The hotel is undeniably beautiful, particularly the pool area and its spectacular views across the bay, and there are some genuinely lovely aspects to the resort. However, having stayed at a number of 5★ resorts across Greece, I cannot say that Lindos Grand lived up to the 5★ standard we expected. For us, the biggest issue was the inconsistency. There were some areas that felt luxurious and well thought out, but others felt closer to a 3.5–4★ experience. The service, breakfast and general atmosphere particularly let the hotel down, and by the end of our stay we felt that the price we had paid simply did not reflect the experience we received. Positives The room We stayed in room 3119, which was very spacious and well laid out. There was just about enough storage for two people staying for 8 nights, although I think the open-plan storage could become problematic for anyone staying for a longer period. The beds were extremely comfortable and were changed regularly, and the air conditioning was excellent. It is controlled via a touchscreen panel on the wall and worked very efficiently throughout our stay. The cleaning staff were a real standout. Our room was cleaned every day to a very high standard, and they were extremely attentive. Everywhere was consistently spotless, and this was one area where the hotel really did feel 5★. One thing that absolutely needs addressing, however, is the lack of a full-length mirror. There are no long mirrors in the rooms, which made getting ready in the evening surprisingly difficult when you couldn’t see your entire outfit. For a 5★ resort, this feels like a very basic omission. An iron and ironing board are available on request, but unfortunately the one provided to us felt quite shabby and did not fit with the overall 5★ feel of the resort. The pool area — the star of the show There is absolutely no denying that the pool area is stunning. The views across the bay are incredible and the infinity pool is genuinely beautiful. The sun loungers were also very comfortable, and thankfully there were no traditional “sunbed wars”. We could still comfortably get good loungers as late as 10:30am, which was a huge positive. The outdoor space is without question the hotel’s biggest and best attraction. Visually, it is beautiful and is exactly what you would expect from a luxury Greek resort. Negatives This does not feel like a 5★ resort Unfortunately, if you are specifically looking for a true 5★ resort experience, I don’t think this is it. I have stayed at many 5★ resorts across Greece and, based on my experience, Lindos Grand felt considerably below that standard in several important areas. I would personally describe the overall experience as closer to a 3.5–4★ experience rather than 5★. The biggest issues were the service, breakfast and overall atmosphere. Staff and service Sadly, the staff were one of the biggest disappointments. This isn’t to say every member of staff was unfriendly, because there were some lovely individuals. However, there were enough negative interactions to noticeably affect our stay. At times, it genuinely felt as though some members of staff did not want us there. There were very few smiles, little enthusiasm and, on occasions, a real sense of disdain. It made us feel uncomfortable and, ultimately, actually deterred us from eating at some of the hotel’s restaurants. We ended up going to Aqua Terra, the hotel’s restaurant down the road, several times instead. The difference was remarkable. The staff there were friendly, charming and welcoming, and their attitude actually made us want to spend our evenings there rather than at our own hotel. For me, that says a lot. Breakfast Breakfast was, quite frankly, shocking for a hotel advertising itself as 5★. Some items were stale, hot food was often cold and things were not replenished quickly enough. I also spent far too much of my breakfast waiting in a queue simply to toast a piece of bread. The coffee situation was particularly frustrating. Every morning we asked for either a latte or a cappuccino. Not once during our stay did our coffee order arrive correctly. Every morning, we were brought something completely different. I raised this issue on three separate occasions, yet even the replacement drinks were brought incorrectly. When you are paying the amount expected for a resort of this standard, I don’t think it is unreasonable to expect a simple coffee order to be correct. What made it worse was that the incorrect drink would simply be placed on the table without so much as a “good morning” or a smile. It meant that every morning started in exactly the same disappointing way. I genuinely don’t know whether this was down to a language barrier, insufficient training or something else, but either way, it needs addressing. Breakfast should be one of the highlights of a 5★ hotel, and unfortunately it was one of the weakest parts of our stay. Atmosphere around the pool Although the pool area itself is beautiful, the atmosphere felt strangely depleted. There was no low-level music or anything creating much of an atmosphere, and at times it actually felt quite awkward and silent. A beautiful pool area needs more than just beautiful surroundings — the atmosphere is an important part of the experience too. Unfortunately, the final two days made this even worse. A group of four influencers arrived and completely changed the atmosphere around the pool. They were extremely loud and obnoxious, shouting, smoking in the pool and generally behaving in a way that felt completely inappropriate for a luxury resort. They had plastic bottles floating around in the pool and made no attempt to remove them. To make matters worse, they were smoking in the pool, with ash going directly into the water. It was genuinely disgusting behaviour and completely ruined the final two days of what had otherwise been a much more peaceful pool experience. What I found particularly surprising afterwards was seeing that the hotel has since reposted their stories online, and I discovered that they have 45,000+ followers on Instagram. It left me wondering whether the hotel was happy to overlook this behaviour because of their social media following. Regardless of who a guest is or how many followers they have, I don’t think this type of behaviour should be tolerated in a hotel pool. Poolside service on our final day Our final experience really summed up some of the service issues we had experienced throughout the stay. On our last day, we decided to have some food at the poolside snack bar. We were seated for over 35 minutes without anyone coming to take our order. Eventually, we had to collect the menus ourselves. We then waited a further 30 minutes, still with nobody coming to serve us. At this point, I actually had to go inside the hotel and ask somebody to come and take our order. When the food eventually arrived, I had specifically requested no egg in my club sandwich, yet there was egg in the sandwich. This is particularly disappointing when you have clearly communicated a dietary requirement. The level of service was simply not what I would expect from a 5★ hotel, and the experience did not feel particularly accommodating when it came to dietary requirements or allergies. Would I stay here again? Unfortunately, no. I genuinely never normally feel the need to go online and write a review about a hotel, but the number of issues we experienced during this stay were significant enough that I felt compelled to share our experience. Lindos Grand has the potential to be an incredible luxury resort. The setting is spectacular, the pool is beautiful, our room was spacious and comfortable, and the housekeeping team were fantastic. However, beautiful surroundings alone do not make a 5★ experience. For us, the poor and inconsistent service, disappointing breakfast, lack of atmosphere and the way certain situations around the pool were handled ultimately outweighed the positives. If you are booking this hotel primarily for the views and the pool, you will probably love the setting. But if you are expecting the level of service, attention to detail and overall experience that comes with a genuine 5★ Greek resort, I would manage your expectations. For the price we paid, I expected significantly more — and sadly, I would not return.
