My husband and I have traveled from the United States all over the world, very blessed to have stayed in some of the best of five star hotels. We have found the most exquisite hotels and customer service to be at The Mandarin Orientals, especially in Asia ( Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur). While these hotels are all fabulous, the Mandarin Oriental Dubai Jumeira ( MODJ) has touched our heart and has become our favorite, our home away from home in Dubai. We were at the MODJ for the first time last summer for a week and we just couldn’t wait to get back! We had such a wonderful and most special week there. We are now returning in one month and we can’t wait! In Dubai there are so many magnificent hotels to choose from. All being the most gorgeous properties with top level customer service. It took us so long to choose the hotel we would stay in while in Dubai for the first time because there are so many options of exquisite hotels in Dubai, in different areas there. From the US, never being in Dubai before, it was also difficult for us to decide which area of Dubai would best meet our needs. Prior to choosing the MODJ we read so many hotel reviews on Trip Advisor, again finding that there are so many Dubai hotels to choose that have great reviews. Ultimately we decided on the MODJ over all the other five star properties ( including over one that is a 6 star property) and it turned out to be the very best choice for us for so many reasons. First, the location. We found that the location of the MODJ was the perfect mix for us. It is very close to downtown, and to the Burg Khalifa, Dubai mall ( the very best of all malls in the world), many restaurants and the downtown attractions. Also, is on a beautiful private beach with pristine water. We didn’t find the need to go to another beach while there but had we wanted to it wouldn’t have been too far away. It has a large beautiful main pool area overlooking the ocean, a number of excellent restaurant choices, a world class spa ( yes you can get your hair blown - out), a cake shop serving delicious and ornate, special cakes and goodies ( they will box them up and you can bring them to your room if you order) and as far as I know it’s the only Michelin Star Dubai Restaurant with a rooftop infinity pool. The breakfast buffet is definitely a stand out! It was among the best we have experienced in our travels. Guests can eat off the massive buffet and/or order a la carte items. All the offerings are delicious. The buffet offers foods from different countries, there is something to thrill each guests tastes. My husband ate the Asian breakfast foods, I tended to go for the falafel with homemade pita. The pastries tasted as good as they are gorgeous. We both also ordered off the a la cart menu daily. The buffet breakfast is so grande that we had no need to eat lunch, but that’s us. So all the bells and whistles are there at MODJ! To us, the most important thing that is bringing us back to the MODJ, and choosing it again over all other wonderful Dubai hotels, is the human touch and the extra above and beyond efforts ( from all employees) that makes the difference. There is a caring and warm attitude among all colleagues towards all guests. This is something that they prioritize and nurture among the staff. This is why MODJ is not just another gorgeous and amazingly situated property, and why we feel that when return we are returning to family. Directing the team MODJ team is the Hotel Manager John Kitchens who is the one that sets such a high standard of care towards all MODJ guests. From the top down, made by every single MODJ colleague. John honestly does everything in his power to problem solve and to offer guests above and beyond experiences which is unique for a hotel manager. Often this kind of thing is delegated to others in lower positions. In our case, my husband really wanted to participate in a falcon experience in the desert while in Dubai. We would be picked up at the hotel and driven out to the desert for this. It was to be a highlight for him of our trip. We scheduled one with the hotel concierge ( through one of their preferred vendors) and had our hotel pickup time for the next early morning. The next morning we were notified that the experience was cancelled due to the heat ( it was the first week in August) and my husband certainly understood, but was disappointed. Hearing of this, and having a gentleman coming regularly to the hotel with his falcon to scare away birds, John called this man to find out if he was flying his falcon that day ( it wasn’t as hot where the hotel was situated as it was in the desert) and once he said he was, John scheduled for him to come to the hotel that morning as a surprise for my husband to give him a private falcon experience from the hotel. We got a call to come to the lobby where we were met by this gentleman with his bird and we went outside with him so he could teach my husband from different locations how to hold/fly the bird from his gloved firearm. It was possibly the most thoughtful gesture any hotel manager has ever done for us and my husband was thrilled! This is just one example of John’s kindness and willingness to himself go above and beyond to make this guests trip a most memorable one. During our stay there were many examples where he assisted us. John honestly wishes to hear from guests about their stays and wants to make sure all guests feel well taken care of while staying there. John is also very visible; he’s often out and about seen talking with guests. Most importantly he fosters a respectful and caring attitude between MODJ colleagues (they all appear to really love and feel grateful to be working there) which trickles down to how his colleagues interact with each other and with guests. One of Maya Angelou’s most famous quotes hits home and explains why we can’t wait to return to MODJ in a month: “At the end of the day, people won’t remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel”. It is this feeling that we get while staying at the MODJ that is bringing us, and other guests, back for return trips. Now for some shout outs to some of the people (and teams) that took such great care of us during the week we were there: Some unsung heroes are the housekeeping services, people who worked in the restaurant as chefs, servers at the restaurants, behind the food stations during breakfast, those who assisted us at the pool and on the beach and at the front desk. While I unfortunately can’t remember names of everyone to give individual shout outs, all of these teams did a great job in welcoming us and helping us out on a daily basis. Everyone, without exception, treated guests with a smile, great service and a great attitude. A shout out to Faisal who himself, along with his team took such great care of our room and he, who personally took pride in picking up and delivering back to us my white linen pants whose bottoms had become so seriously dirty that I though the pants may have been ruined. Also a big thank you to the two restaurant managers ( I apologize for not remembering your names, one being a man, the other a woman) who were at breakfast daily to oversee that everything went smoothly and that guests received the most excellent customer service. They were not passive. They walked around speaking to guests, they ran around at times even bringing a latte or an a la carte order to a table. The conciege team: This top notched team was a highlight of our stay due to the exceptional ability of its members to do so many things to make a guests trip a perfect one. In our case a HUGE shout out to Joseph and Andrea, who both went so above and beyond in making our dreams come true in too many ways to describe , from assisting us with the more regular conciege type tasks like making dining and special activities recommendations and booking them to the more unique. This concierge team is the best! For instance, at the time we arrived to the hotel, there was a Dubai chocolate craze going on around the world which referred to a viral TikTok trend centered around a milk chocolate bar filled with pistachio cream and kataifi, officially named "Can't Get Knafeh of It," which was created by Sarah Hamouda, a Dubai-based chocolatier, as a side hustle inspired by her pregnancy cravings for knafeh (a Middle Eastern dessert). This chocolate bar could only be obtained in Dubai. In the US, many knew about these chocolate bars and were dying to get their hands on them. Knowing that we were leaving for Dubai my husband’s assistants at work told him not to come back to the office without one of these chocolate bars for each of them. Not understanding the magnitude of what they were asking of him he agreed to bring them back these bars, how difficult could this be while in Dubai? It wasn’t until he asked Joseph of the conciege team where we could go to purchase the bars that Joseph, with a huge smile, explained that it would be too complicated for us to get our hands on these bars, but that he could get them for us. This would beca difficult feat taking several days with the number of bars my husband had promised. It had something to do with, from memory, his having to get on an app during a very limited time frame daily to order them and to have them delivered. There was a small number that one person could order daily, if you even got the chance to order them. Needless to say Joseph, over several days ( getting only 1-2 bars a day) made magic happen and got all the promised bars for my husband which were as difficult to obtain as it is to purchase a BTS concert ticket! Bottom line… Joseph is King! Andrea, the other amazing conciege worked so hard to book all kinds of things for us including the desert falcon experience tickets, where each time she booked us the experience it was cancelled last minute due to various reasons. This happened several times with her continuing to try to make this happen for us. It was through no fault of her own that it became too hot in the desert to fly the birds:) I believe she also tag teamed Joseph in obtaining those bars! Today as I write this I contacted Joseph to ask him if he may be able to accomplish another tricky task for us prior to our arrival and his response was “Everything is possible in this city of Dubai. We will get this done”. This is the mantra of the MODJ concierge team. Next big shout outs to both Noman Alhouri ( Front Desk Manager) and Mai Anh Nguyen ( Director of Rooms) for their incredible customer service and attempts to solve an issue for us at the beginning of our stay. They were both so welcoming and nice to us and did everything in their power to achieve the successful resolution. Noman, thanks for your last words to me leaving the door open for something should we need it……which we ended up needing after all:) Finally, a shout out the Hotel Manager John Kitchens. Thank you for the way you lead the MODJ team as a team is only as good as its leader leads. Now for what’s equally as important: You are charming, a very good and caring person, unassuming, down to earth and unpretentious. You lead your team from the heart and do everything to motivate your colleagues to do their very best in making each and every guest feel special and welcomed. You know what guests are looking for in a stay, what is most important to them and what it takes to make them want to return, as we will be doing in 4 weeks. You understand that it’s about your team members building relationships with guests, providing all guests with the continued above and beyond customer service and making them feel like they are home when at the MODJ. Know that your efforts are greatly noticed in the experiences that the MODJ are having. Your efforts from the top are what has pulled together such an exceptional team of colleagues and are much appreciated! Thank You, David and Felicia Sable
