I thoroughly enjoy writing hotel reviews, especially when I feel my experience could help another in their decision making. Mango House Hotel, Mahe has been an interesting hotel to discover and unpack. For context, I stayed here for 10 days on their all inclusive package. This package has a 5 figure price tag. I’d like to start with the positives, as there are many. The staff are genuinely lovely; so kind and attentive. I’d like to mention a few names of those that have gone above and beyond during my stay. Joshua - working both breakfast, lunch and dinner (some days) is an absolute ray of sunshine. Always smiling and so happy to see you. Remembering that I’ll always take sparkling instead of still water with my meals and super efficient in every thing he does. Liza - is just the kindest and sweetest lady. Always eager to please and so happy to help. She’s always smiling which makes the day even brighter. Samia - was at ‘Soley’, the pool bar, every day. So attentive and efficient with drinks, food orders etc. Nothing was ever too much of an ask for her. Anna - Anna saw us on both our first and last day. She made our stay feel so welcome and homely. So talkative and light humoured. Made great recommendations for food and drinks and was generally a wonderful person to be around. The rooms are sizeable. For reference, I stayed in room 2, a ‘Bay Villa’ with a balcony. They are sizeable rooms with a huge walk in wardrobe space to store your things, a spacious living space and a (potentially) super king sized, netted bed. With a bath and shower, as well as a toilet and bidet, your bathroom choices are extensive. The balcony is also worth mentioning. It’s huge, much larger than I was expecting. House keeping, or as I think it should be rebranded ‘Bed Making’, was beyond disappointing. I’ve stayed at other resorts for a much lower cost where you come back to your room with a chocolate on your pillow or your towel fashioned into a local animal. At Mango House, the toilets don’t even get bleached. Fresh towels and a made bed is as good as it gets. I feel for the price I paid, this is an area that could be greatly improved. On the first night (I suspect) my very selfish neighbours were smoking in their room as the fire alarms went off at 3:00am. I rushed to the safe to get my passport and headed to the meeting point at reception. I was half asleep and unaware that this wasn’t the ‘real deal’. I had to sit and wait at reception until the maintenance guy was able to disarm the alarm system. I returned to my room 15 minutes later and heard no more about the event. Until, I went for breakfast the next morning and saw that said selfish neighbours had dumped their room service tray outside their door, on the floor… with cigarette butts stubbed out on it!! I am not impressed with how this situation was handled. ‘Soley’ the pool bar, has an extensive drinks and food menu, much better than ‘Muse’ the other onsite restaurant. The vibe is wonderful, both relaxing as well as a little up beat. With access to a small beach for snorkelling, it was the perfect place to laze the days away. At sundown every evening in ‘The House’, you’d get a free glass of Prosecco to enjoy either in or beside the infinity pool overlooking the sunset and small cove down below. I thoroughly enjoyed snorkelling in this cove where I saw an array of sea life. The sunset drinks however, were lacklustre. Sometimes you’d be given a glass of Prosecco, other times you’d be sat in plain sight and not even offered one. This made me feel rather ‘unseen’ and after this happened a few times, I stopped attending this sunset event. Let’s get into the dining outlet situations. There’s A LOT to unpack here. Mango House has 3 of their own dining venues; Azido (Japanese), Muse (Italian) and Moutya (Creole) ((my favourite!!)) The menu at Azido is great if you like sushi and Asian fusion seafood dishes. I personally feel that it’s very overrated. Moutya was, by far, my favourite. Creole is the local cuisine and is what is served at Moutya. The food is phenomenal, however I wish the same could be said for the service. On 4 separate occasions I either received the wrong thing or just didn’t receive it at all. This goes for both drinks and food. This also happened at Muse and Soley. On over 10 separate occasions I was either served completely the wrong thing or totally forgotten about. NOT what I expect from a 5 star, all inclusive resort. I’d like to recommend you try the following if you do decide to stay at Mango House: Coconut French Toast (Breakfast) Chicken and Potato Curry (Moutya) Beef Tenderloin Skewers (Moutya) Tropical Salad (Moutya) Soursop Sorbet (Moutya) Magma-ificent (Moutya) Tempura Sprimp (Azido) California Rolls (Azido) I personally wouldn’t stay here again (at this price point) however I am sure that you may have a different experience should you choose to stay here. The staff make the place feel like home, it’s just a huge shame that the service is sub-par. Thank you for having us Mango House, maybe we’ll see you again some time in the future 🇸🇨👋
