Very disappointing experience

We were very disappointed with our recent stay, especially considering Martinhal’s reputation as a family-focused resort. On the first day, our son became sick (likely from the food) and unfortunately vomited on the bed. We immediately contacted reception and requested cleaning, but no one came. We had to follow up multiple times, and only after the third request did someone finally arrive to clean the room. Upon arrival, we had also requested bed guards for our almost 3-year-old son. We were told they would be brought shortly, but they never arrived. The following day we asked again—more than once—and still no one brought them. As a result, our son had to sleep in a full adult bed without protection, which meant I barely slept as I was worried he might fall during the night. We had also booked the kids club, but I was informed that I could not stay with my son and had to leave him there. Given that he is not yet 3 years old, this was quite distressing for him and he immediately started crying when I tried to leave. Overall, the level of service we experienced was far below what we expected, particularly from a resort that markets itself so strongly toward families with young children. We visited during the low season, so we were especially surprised by the lack of responsiveness and support. I hope the management team takes this feedback seriously and looks into what happened during our stay, as it did not reflect the standard of service we were expecting from Martinhal.

Friendly, customer oriented reservation process. We got a very nice room in the front row. Martinhal Sagres is certainly a good children oriented resort, but for people without kids quiet space for breakfast and dinner is missing. Also not so nice was that quite some restaurants were mentioned on the internet page, but only one restaurant was actually open. There was no bar close to our room. The heated pool is very nice, available also in the earlier morning. Personnel is very friendly and customer oriented.

Not really anymore a 5 star hotel, more like 4 star. At least on off-season (mid-November) there was only one restaurant open with very few staff. Family dinner took more than 2 hours to get even 2 course meal. Only one heated outdoor pool was open, and some days its temperature was about 24-25 degrees, which was too cold for the kids (as outside temperature was about 18). Indoor pool was closed due to maintenance. Many activities very closed or it was hard to understand which hours they operate and on which days... Premises are 15 years old, which starts to show in many places.

We arrived in Sagres and this hotel caught our eye, as it is stunning..... We decided to check for availibility . The young lady at the front desk knew nothing about the hotel and kept calling or leaving to go ask basic questions and get back to us. She eventually found out they had availbility and after many back for forth, she quoted us 393 euros for one night,which we thought was a bit steep, but were willing to give it a try. She advised the room was not ready and we could come back later. We asked if we could leave our luggage, instead of driving around with it. Even for something so simple we had to wait, for her to go ask her superior who eventually came out of his office and instead of talking directly to us, he was telling her what to tell us! That we found very disturbing, and I bit my tongue as not to tell him off.... Hooray we were allowed to leave our luggage. On our return we collected our room key and the lobby was full of children running amock waiting for their parents, who were busy checking in too. We quicky realised this was a family restaurant especially provisionalized for children's entertainment Our room had a nice view and was very relaxing and nice! The next day before we left we went for breakfast which had a very impressive spread, but the noise of unruley children crying , screaming and running around,made us loose our appetite very quickly. It felt like we had walked into a creche's playground. The view at the breakfast area is breathtaking. The terrible,service at their front desk was unacceptable to say the least. I know people have to learn, but not at the cost of customers patience and time. That lady should be watching over the shoulder of an experienced staff member(when not too busy),untill she has learned and is fit to serve your customers, not thrown into a job that she is clueless, especially with the prices you charge! Your services do not match your beautiful hotel.....
