Does not honor reservations even with 50% deposit, book at our own peril. Might end up in unsafe, dirty old house down the street. Our family booked the three bedroom villa at Match Resort in May 2025 for a three-night stay in August 2025. Two weeks after booking, we noticed that the villa was still showing as available on other sites, so we called the hotel directly and they confirmed that our reservation was visible in their system. Two weeks after our initial call, we still noticed that the three bedroom villa was showing as available for our selected dates, so we called again, voiced our concern, and we were advised by the owner to make a 50% deposit to guarantee the reservation. We did that, and the owner claimed he had blocked off the villa from being booked by anyone else, so we thought that all was well. Fast forward to the day of our stay, we called to let the hotel know that we would be arriving later than expected (around 8pm), only to be told then that the three bedroom villa was overbooked for our three-night stay. Note that we were only informed of this when we called, the hotel did not call us even though we had chatted directly with the owner and had made a 50% deposit to ensure reservation of the three bedroom villa. The front desk assured us that we would still have accommodations when we arrived and that we would be moved over to the villa the following day. We showed up at the Match Resort property only to be told that the one night “accommodation” was at a separate property down the street, which turned out to be what I could only describe as a disgustingly dirty old house down the street from the hotel. I wish I was exaggerating, but I have the pics to prove it! Given the time of night, we had no choice but to stay in this unsafe, unclean house. The place was so disgustingly filthy that I decided that not showering that night was the “cleaner” option. The next day, we were “moved” to the hotel property, only to be told that we would still not be able to stay in the three bedroom villa that we had booked, and in the end, we never did get what we had booked with the 50% deposit. Our family ended up being separated into three different rooms, which was not ideal since we all wanted to be together. As for room I stayed in, the bathroom drain was clogged during each shower, the toilet was running at odd hours of the night, the door to the patio was faulty, and it was obvious that the room had some serious wear and tear. The only positive about this place is that most of the staff were pleasant (especially when the matriarch of our family was fuming about them overbooking the villa) and the food was decent (a glass of extra juice will cost you though!). Do these things compensate for the horrible experience our family had at the Match Resort, absolutely not. While I can’t speak for my entire family, for me, NEVER AGAIN! I grew up in Portland and I have not been to Jamaica in a very long time, and this experience has made me question why I should even bother to try to support my fellow Jamaicans. I feel as if I would not have been treated so poorly at a larger, internationally based hotel.
