Mediterranean Hotel, Rhodes I shall start with the positives about this hotel: Excellent location right across from the beach and a short walk away from the old town and harbour. Room was very nice overlooking the sea on the 6th floor. Cleaned every day and towels changed. Bed was changed after 4 days. Cleaning staff all very friendly and polite. Reception staff very helpful and polite as were the restaurant staff. I requested a meeting with the manageress the day before my departure to give her the option of responding to my complaints before I wrote this report on Trip Advisor. Negatives: Food always lukewarm and repetitive – Advised it was checked regularly. Small bottle of wine in evening with dinner full of sediment and waiter said I could not have a full bottle unless I drank it all that evening – Advised it was all getting sent back to supplier. Next evening the wine was the same. Skipped it the third night expecting to get a different one on the fourth day – same wine. Water station shut down in the evening also the coffee machine – advised to request a bottle of water in the evening and pay for it. Bus loads arrive and reception is completely full of people. Queue for the lift so I walked up 6 flights of stairs only to find out that my key did not work – advised these things can happen if you keep it in your purse/wallet – I kept it in the little folder I was given on check-in. Only one coffee station for at least a hundred people – queues right past your table with people breathing down on you. Advised they were working on getting another. Asked why a five star hotel does not have some Prosecco and fresh orange in the morning -Advised there are a lot of schoolchildren visit the hotel. Can a waiter not distribute it to adults only? Notes all over the hotel requesting guests to limit the amount of electricity they use the following day due to power cuts/reduced power. I used the lift the following morning and it came to a halt halfway and pitch black – pressed emergency button. Started moving again and shuddered. Advised there were notes all over the hotel -I said but none of them mentioned do not use the lift – advised common sense should have told you this – I said notes did not mention the lift and if that was the case why not tape off the lifts? One evening I sat at a table only to find it crawling in insects, not ants. Asked if it was a clean table when I sat down – yes it was apart from the insects. Advised nobody else complained that evening. Cheese every night the same – 2 selections – no crackers. Advised there were bread sticks but took on board that the British like a cracker with their cheese. After my meeting with the manageress a goody bag was left in my room containing a baseball cap (I am 72) a canvas bag, a scarf, 2 pairs hotel slippers, a small bottle of Greek wine and honey nibbles and 2 bottles of foul smelling body lotion. I drank the wine with my evening meal that evening (equivalent of a glass). Surely its not a luxury to expect a glass on wine with your evening meal when on holiday? I did not have this privilege due to the rubbish wine. During my stay the waiters did not approach my table to see if I wanted anything (solo traveller) whereas as soon as a couple or party sat down, they were straight over. After my meeting 3 waiters approached me at dinner. This hotel was about 95% French people and I felt the British were not catered for as the food was pretty strange in bits. A tray of chips came out from the kitchen one evening so I thought this will be hot – no, they were cold. Advised the hotel is full of British in the summer but I reminded her this was not summer and I stood by my opinion that it was 95% French people and catered for their tastes. I asked why a microwave could not be in the dining room – Advised some people don’t like them as they give off dangerous rays.? I would never stay here again – it is nothing like a 5 star – I have stayed in better 3 star hotels.
