Mount Lavinia Hotel

It is our pleasure to share the fantastic experience we are having at Mount Lavinia Hotel. My husband and I arrived in Sri Lanka at the end of May 2025 for a three-week holiday. We are spending two of those weeks at Mount Lavinia Hotel and will be returning to Melbourne on the 15th of June. We are truly enjoying our stay. Every staff member we meet makes us feel completely at home. The beach view from our room is incredibly therapeutic to wake up to each morning, and we love that all rooms in the hotel face the beach. The hotel also has a private beach, which makes it truly unique. The food here is absolutely incredible—each meal takes us to another level! There is a wide variety of authentic Sri Lankan, Indian, and other international dishes, and we are enjoying every bite. I would like to sincerely thank each and every staff member for their outstanding service. You are all fantastic, always supportive, and make us feel so comfortable—like this hotel is a home away from home. Special thanks to: • Dilanka, Harsha, and the reservations team for their excellent support with our bookings and for providing us with a wonderful room. • Thilanka and the reception team for their warm welcome and for always checking in to make sure we have everything we need. • Laxman and the Food & Beverage team for the fantastic service. Each member of the F&B team is a star—their hospitality is exceptional! It’s also an honour to mention the world-renowned Deshabandu Dr. Publis Silva, Director of Culinary Affairs. Meeting him in person was a privilege. Having served as the Executive Chef for many years, he has now been with the hotel for over 60 years—an incredible achievement. We highly recommend Mount Lavinia Hotel if you want to experience the true essence of Sri Lankan culture and hospitality. This hotel is not to be missed! Every time we visit Sri Lanka, we make sure to stay here. Once again, our heartfelt thanks to all the staff for their outstanding customer service and warm hospitality. I stayed at Mount Lavinia Hotel from 31st May till 6th June. I enjoyed it very much. I must make special mentions about two employees. 1. The Door Controller (in white Uniform and hat) called Ranjith was very polite, helpful and extremely pleasant. He was extremely considerate of any rides I arranged and any visitors I entertained. 2. The Lifeguard called Bandula was an extremely active person. he was very caring and was polite to all guests. Promptly provided the swimmers with clean towels and watched with eagle eyes to avoid any accident. May their service be valued by the management. Dr Jay J

Mount Lavinia Hotel offers a truly stunning location right on the beach, with panoramic views of the Indian Ocean that are hard to beat. The colonial architecture and sense of history make it feel like a step back in time, and it's easy to see why it's one of Colombo’s more iconic and traditional stays. However, while the exterior and public areas are charming, the rooms themselves could use some updating. During our stay, the room had a noticeable damp smell, and there was visible mildew on the bathroom blind – not what you'd expect at this price point. It felt like the interiors haven’t been maintained to the same standard as the rest of the property. Overall, Mount Lavinia Hotel might appeal to those seeking a classic, old-world atmosphere or a scenic spot to unwind by the sea, but be prepared for accommodations that don’t quite match the grandeur of the setting.

“Pathetic stay” Pros: Property location is awesome. They have a private beach. This is the only good thing about this property. Cons: 1. Pathetic and worst service. During our stay for 3 nights, whatever we have requested, never came on time. We had to waited for minimum 40 min to get the bathroom accessories. 2. One of colleague requested for room cleaning in the morning but when we came back in the evening, morning happened. Towels were not changed. 3. Internet was extremely slow. I complained it to the front office but they said that IT team has left so no one is available. Time was around 8.30 pm. Surprised to see such response from this property. 4. We ordered coca cola and they brought Pepsi. Even after request during checkin, they allotted one room on the other side of the property. They kept on giving excuses.

Magnificent mount location and hotel with breaktaking views, a place with a beautiful romantic history and wonderful care and hospitality by kind helpful staff.. Sri Lankan hospitality! Delicious food, especially breakfast array at the buffet, with traditional authentic exquisite Sri Lankan delicacies and there are also global cuisines & dishes offered with different nationality themed nights... wonderful idea, something to suit all. I would like to give a special shout out to staff I met ( in no particular order, they're all so kind and helpful): Dimuthu Jeyaratne, Camilus, Rohana, Salintha, Kavintha, Isuru, Kumari,Sarasi, and there are more whose names i do not have, all the delightful reception and doormen crew, wonderful cleaning crew, electricians and all. Thank you, you make it what it is!
