If you are planning a holiday or even a short trip to the Greek Island of Skiathos for the first time, there are 2 key decisions that you have to address. First, where on the island are you going to stay and second, which hotel or other accommodation are you going to choose. Earlier this year I was faced with these 2 decisions myself and having just returned from the most incredible 2 week holiday on the island, I am delighted to tell you, I genuinely struck gold with both of my choices. Read on if you want to experience the best that Skiathos has to offer. Let’s cut to the chase and tell you from the start that I chose to stay in Skiathos town. It is without doubt one of the most beautiful and incredible Greek Towns I have had the pleasure to visit. Set around a Port area, it offers a myriad of wonderful bars and restaurants to choose from; so many in fact, you’d need to stay for months to visit them all. The narrow streets, a canvas of stunning Greek architecture, are also littered with boutique shops that you are sure to be enchanted by. Now that I have successfully talked you in to basing yourself in Skiathos town, the next question is where are you going to stay? A brief search on the internet will verify that there are very few hotels or rental properties in Skiathos town that include a swimming pool but if you’re visiting in the height of summer, trust me when I tell you that you’re going to need one. Even if you do decide to escape to the array of wonderful beaches that island has to offer, it is inevitable that you will on occasions, return from your adventures and crave the luxury of jumping into a pool to cool off before treating yourself to that beer or cocktail you’ve been desperate for. Allow me to save you the trouble of searching and strongly recommend you make your choice of accommodation the Mystery Skiathos Luxury Residence. This incredible boutique hotel is run by Thomas and Katerina who are guaranteed to make you feel like their most important guests from the moment you arrive to the day you reluctantly depart. That sentiment extends to every single member of staff at the hotel as well. Billy and Irene who are both wonderful people, took care of all our food and drink needs regardless of whether we were having breakfast or lunch, resting by the pool or enjoying happy hour in the early evening (the cocktails are FANTASTIC too!). Nothing was too much effort and without exception, they were always so pleased to see us making sure they took the time to stop and chat and check we had everything we needed. Furthermore, Billy was generous enough to give up time on a couple of his free mornings to give us a guided tour of his home town and some of the beaches on the island. I have to say there are not enough superlatives to express just how perfect this hotel is and how truly wonderful the staff are. At the time of writing this I found that most of the pictures of the hotel online were out of date because the hotel was extended early in 2025. This extension increased the number of available rooms at the Hotel all of which are exceptionally equipped with everything you need. In addition to the increase in accommodation, a second swimming pool was built as well. Given the number guests staying at the hotel we found the pool area was remarkably peaceful and a lovely place to spend our days relaxing. We spent 2 weeks at the hotel and we left with heavy hearts.. As I write this, I feel a sense of sadness that our holiday had to come to an end, but rest assured I will be returning and I cannot wait to be back sharing days in the sun with the incredible people who make this amazing hotel feel like the place you could check in and just stay forever. To Thomas, Katerina, Billy, Irene and all the staff at Mystery, thank you from the bottom of heart for welcoming us in to your lives for 2 weeks and ensuring we left smiling with memories that will last forever. See you soon.
