This was our third stay at Kuda Funafaru island and sadly the worst of all 3 stays. Let's start with the good things. Arrival at the airport was very good, the rep was very friendly, and check in with TMA really smooth. We got escorted to the lounge and only had to wait for like half an hour. We had booked a sunrise beach pool villa on AI, for 11 nights. The room was as good as we remembered. The new design was ok, still prefer the previous version. Our biggest complain was the aircon. There are two airconditions but both on the same outer unit. We had strong winds in February and the room just wouldn't cool down below 25 degrees. We had the technician twice in the room but they couldn't do anything. I requested to have the room temperature checked with a infrared thermometer and it was just below 25 degrees with both units on full blast. We knew the seaplane lands on the sunrise side, but it's so dangerous if someone is swimming in the sea, they literally come right to the beach. The main pool area, it's lovely really, but the service was poor, one had to constantly look for someone to order a drink. While the hotel was at full capacity, they decided to do some shooting of the island, on many days closing off some parts of the island, like pool area, gym and so on. One day, guests were asked to move away from the sunbeds at the pool an not allowed to use the pool or half of the loungers as they were taking pictures and videos. Since we had so much wind for February, we thought we might as well book some spa treatments. They had a spa package offer for 8 one hours treatments. I did ask at the spa reception if we could try two one hour sessions and if we like it, deduct it from the package and go for the package, or if we don't like it, just paying the two sessions on regular rate. Answer was no. Needless to say we didn't book any... There are hardly any bikes for guests, it would be better to not have any at all, or two bikes for every villa. Food was the biggest disaster. The main buffet was so poor, i cannot remember ever having had such poor food at any resort in Maldives. They took away the promised a la carte for lunch and only offering buffet as well, or one could go to Thari for a la carte, but the menu was the same for every day and very restricted. Also the taste was awful. They also didn't provide the promised Shiraz in the all inclusive, only after our agent emailed them. We never really saw our butler, they often forgot to answer on whatsapp or informing about the next day activities. We wanted to book a private snorkeling trip, but when we arrived at the dive center, no one greeted us and both instructors were on their mobile phones watching videos. Management was also not very pro active. The general vibe was weird, all very unprofessional. Reception was super unfriendly too. We can only say good things about the staff at Palms restaurant and bar. Also the live music was amazing, very professional. Just too many shortcomings for my liking and the new management is clueless. At the prices they charge, i can't see them running this property for very long under vignette collection.
